In an article in the Journal Sentinel out of Milwaukee, WI, Chris Solinsky told reporter Gary D'Amato that he has decided not to enter the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR at the end of June. This means there is no way that Solinsky will be able to compete at 2012 London Olympic Games, an event that he was eyeing with medal hopes.

Solinsky suffered a hamstring injury last spring that, after an accident during the summer, required surgery on September 16th....the day Galen Rupp broke his American 10k record. In 2010 Solinsky broke the American record and had the year of his career with his progression showing much promise as the London Games were approaching quickly. 

Solinsky, age 27, will now have to wait for the chance to make his first Olympic team in 2016 when the Games are scheduled to be in Brazil. 

When I was in Portland with Chris I know these thoughts were on his mind, "What if I can not compete in 2012?" There is always a toss up between chasing your dream at the risk of making a problem worse vs. letting yourself heal the proper way and gearing up for when you are back to 100%. In talking with people close to his camp, Chris is in a good place. He has come to terms and is ok with the fact that 2012 will not happen for him at the Olympics. I know its tough for many distance fans to hear but I believe Chris is making a smart decision to ensure his career is not be short lived. We wish Chris the best in his recovery and look forward to the day he is back on the track doing things like this memory we all have from 2010....
