Medalists:
Gold - Usain Bolt (Jamaica) 9.63 Olympic Record!
Silver - Yohan Blake (Jamaica) 9.75 PR
Bronze - Justin Gatlin (USA) 9.79 PR

The men's 100m final, the event of the day did not fail to disappoint as the reigning Olympic Champion, Usain Bolt silenced all of the doubters as he took Olympic Gold yet again with a blazing 9.63, an Olympic record for the champion! He may not have had a great start out of the blocks but it didn't matter as he had another gear in the last 20 meters, flying past the rest of the field. He was followed by teammate and Jamaican rival Yohan Blake for Silver and USA's Justin Gatlin for bronze!

Generally not one for the camera, Bolt hides his face during his intro.

Tyson Gay, with perfectly groomed beard, ready to rock n' roll.

The gangs all here!

The Blake Beast is ready.

4.8 seconds in to the race and it's anyone's game!

But Bolt says "no, all for me"

And just like that, a new Olympic Record

Bolt and Blake. Jamaica goes 1-2! Hooray, Jamaica!

Semi final updates:

Heat 1:
Justin Gatlin and Asafa Powell both got good starts but it was the U.S. champ Gatlin who blew his competition away after the drive phase, finishing in 9.83 seconds, the fastest ever in an Olympic semifinal. Gatlin's training partner Churandy Martina got up for second place in a personal best while Powell fell into third place but should be able to get into the final with his 9.94 time.

Heat 2:
Section two was the Usain Bolt show as the fastest man on earth shut it down with 25 meters to go and still ran 9.87 seconds. American Ryan Bailey claimed the second and final automatically qualifying spot.

Heat 3:
Yohan Blake proved why he's the world leader with a 9.85 second effort to easily win heat three. Tyson Gay got his signature sluggish start but safety advanced to the final with a second place finish. British teen sensation Adam Gelmini was third but will not be moving ahead to the final.

FULL RESULTS

Heat 1: Tyson Gay wins comfortable easing into a 10.08 (-1.4m/s). Richard Thompson, the 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist and LSU grad, finished second in 10.14 which was just in front of Zambia's Gerald Phiri (Texas A&M grad) who ran 10.16.

Heat 2: Justin Gatlin gets out slightly behind but quickly accelerates to destroy the field in 9.97 (+0.7 m/s). Derrick Atkins of the Bahamas, 2007 World Silver Medalist, finishes second in 10.22 and Rondell Sorrillo of Trinidad (Kentucky all-american) was third in 10.23.

Heat 3: Ryan Bailey came out gunning in his opening race to time his lifetime best in 9.88 (+1.5 m/s). Bailey all of a sudden looks he could be the best chance for US to challenge Jamaica for the Gold

Heat 4: Usain Bolt got out of the block and almost looked like he came up real quick and then tried to go back down into the drive phase. He didn't look the smoothest but at the same time didn't look like he was running too hard. Bolt was looking around mid-way through and eased in for the win running 10.09 (+0.4 m/s). Daniel Bailey of Antigua & Barbuda and Britain's James Dasaolu grabbed the next two auto spots in 10.12 and 10.13.

Heat 5: Asafa Powell comes out running in his beautiful sprinter form to grab the lead and shut it down at about 75 meters to win in 10.04 (0.0 m/s). UK's 18 year old up and comer Adam Gemili finished second after a great start to run 10.11. Gemili just started fully concentrated on track and field in January and went on to win the World Junior 100m title last month. Before this season he was mainly a soccer player. Churandy Martina of the Netherlands, who finished 4th in the Beijing final, grabbed the 3rd spot in 10.20.

Heat 6: Yohan Blake looked solid after getting beat out of the blocks by Bingtian Su of China (finished 3rd in 10.19). Blake ran down Su to win looking easy in 10.00 (+1.3 m/s). Ryota Yamagata of Japan grabbed the #2 spot in 10.07 to set a PB.

Heat 7: UK's Dwain Chambers put on the show for his home crowd hammering his season's best time with a 10.02 (+2.0 m/s), one of his fastest times ever. Jimmy Vicaut will be the lone Frenchman through (10.11) after Christophe Lemaitre opted to only run the 200 metes. Keston Bledman of Trinidad ran well off his 9.86 season's best with a 10.13 to move on. Warren Fraser of the Bahamas and Clemson University finished 4th in 10.27, just .05 off what he needed to qualify.

A big story in the final section is that Kim Collins from Saint Kitts and Nevis did not start the race. It has been report that the national federation pulled him from the competition after Collins decided to not stay at the Athlete Village, but rather at a hotel with his wife. This marked the 5th Olympic Games for the 36 year old Collins who is a two-time Olympic 100 meter finalist. Collins was the 100m World Champ in 2003 and last year earned the bronze at the World Champs in Daegu.

Top 3 In Based on Time:

2. Suwaibou Sanneh (GAM) 10.21, Heat 3

Olympic Record - 9:69 - Usain Bolt (JAM)16 August 2008
American Record - 9.69 - Tyson Gay 20 September 2009

The Favorites: (personal best/season best)
1. Usain Bolt (9.58/9.76) - Harp on him all you want about how terrible he's been this year--relative to Yohan Blake--but the man can get it done.
2. Yohan Blake, Jamaica (9.75/9.75) - Blake could reasonably be called the favorite, as he's beaten Bolt a handful of times this year, but he doesn't boast a 9.58 PR, does he?
3. Justin Gatlin (9.80/9.80) - Served a long doping ban, but he seems to be back and in top form.

The Americans:
1. Justin Gatlin (9.80/9.80) - Gold Medalist in 2004.
2. Tyson Gay (9.69/9.86) - He's always there.
3. Ryan Bailey (9.88/9.93) -Hot young gun, first Olympic Games.
