BEIJING - Day five of the World Championships saw standout performances from all sides of the track, including Julius Yego's jaw-dropping javelin throw that gave fans the performance of a lifetime with the longest throw in 14 years.

The Kenyan Olympian claimed his first World Championship with a heave of 92.72m Wednesday night at National Stadium. The mark shattered his previous personal best of 91.39m and was over three meters further than runner-up Ihab Abdelrahman of Egypt.

Coming from a nation known for its distance running, Yego’s performance broke the African record and marks the first World Championship by a Kenyan thrower in the federation’s history.

Yego famously taught himself how to throw the javelin by watching YouTube videos and is known in his native Kenya as "Mr. YouTube." Yego is completely self-taught and self-coached.

Wayde van Niekerk is Fourth Fastest 400m Runner Ever

The 400m final was a sight to behold as Wayde van Niekerk ran his way to a World Championship in the 400m in the fastest time run since 2007. The 23-year-old South African’s victorious run over 2008 Olympic Champion LaShawn Merritt was completed in 43.48. The only runners van Niekerk stands behind in 400m history are Michael Johnson (43.18), Butch Reynolds (43.29), and Jeremy Wariner (43.45). Read More Here

Merritt’s runner-up finishing time of 43.65 broke the defending World Champion’s previous personal best from the 2013 World Championships by 0.11 seconds. Defending Olympic Champion Kirani James closed for third place overall in a season’s best mark of 43.78.

Shamier Little and Cassandra Tate Go 2-3 in 400m Hurdles

Little and Tate brought some podium hardware to Team USA in the women’s 400m hurdles by taking silver and bronze in 53.94 and 54.02, respectively. Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic won her second straight title in 53.50, a new world lead for 2015.

20-year-old Little made history by becoming the first ever to medal at the World Junior Championships (gold in 2014) and the World Championships in the following year.

Little, who won the World Junior Championship in 2014 and the U.S. Championship in 2015, just completed her sophomore year at Texas A&M University. She was the NCAA Champion in the event in 2014 and 2015.

Tate replicated her bronze medal performance from the 2013 championships in Moscow. The former LSU Tiger will look to make her first Olympic team in 2016. She finished fifth at the 2012 Olympic Trials after winning the NCAA title that same spring.

Justin Gatlin and Usain Bolt Build Into 200m Showdown

The two sprinters claimed wins under 20 seconds in each of their respective heats of the 200m, creating a much-anticipated buzz heading into the 200m final set to go off tomorrow.

Gatlin got things started with a 19.87 winning time out of heat two, which is just off his season’s and personal best time of 19.57 from the USATF Outdoor Championships. Bolt followed the performance in heat three with a winning time of 19.95 which is a season’s best for the 100m World Champion.

Bolt beat Gatlin in the 100m two days prior in a season’s best mark of 9.79, just 0.01 faster than Gatlin’s time of 9.80.
