Brandon McBride Blasts Third-Fastest 800m in NCAA History
The Mississippi State NCAA Champion is officially back from his indoor season hiatus. Brandon McBride ran 1:44.63 at the Jace LaCoste Invitational, which is No. 3 NCAA all-time and is currently the fastest time in the world in 2016. McBride told FloTrack in February that he was choosing to focus on training and stay out of the competitive NCAA circuit, and the decision has clearly paid off.
Courtney Frerichs Returns With NCAA #5 All-Time, World Lead in Steeplechase
New Mexico’s steeplechase star Courtney Frerichs finally made her 2016 debut in her signature event, and she did it with a bang. Frerichs stole the show at the Payton Jordan Invitational with the victory in a field filled with pros. She closed for a winning time of 9:29.31, which stands as a personal best, world lead and fifth-fastest mark in NCAA history in the distance. She is now the third-fastest NCAA performer after Jenny Simpson and Emma Coburn.

Former Arkansas All American Chrishuna Williams broke through with a massive personal best in the 800m and took down a slew of pros along the way. Williams won the Payton Jordan Invitational in 2:00.58, which is the third-fastest time in the world this year. She took the victory in a nail-biter finish over Justine Fedronic, Maggie Vessey and Olivia Baker, who ran an NCAA lead of 2:01.02. Baker’s performance is a three-second improvement on her previous personal best and lands the sophomore an Olympic standard.
Mason Ferlic Clocks PR, NCAA Lead, Olympic Standard in Steeplechase
The Michigan All American threw down a gutsy performance in a professional heavy field at Payton Jordan, which resulted in a PR of 8:28.77. He finished sixth in the field, just six seconds behind race winner Matt Hughes of Bowerman Track Club. The performance officially catapulted him to an NCAA lead, an Olympic standard, and No. 8 in the world this year.
Sean McGorty Runs NCAA Lead and Olympic Standard, Frosh Grant Fisher Debuts With 13:39
The Stanford standout took full advantage of the stacked men’s 5K field at Payton Jordan by finishing in an NCAA-leading time and PR of 13:24. McGorty’s performance allowed him to finish seventh overall in a pro heavy field and dominate the star collegiate opponents. His performance also dipped under the Olympic standard by 0.75-seconds. His teammate, freshman Grant Fisher had a standout performance as well in heat 2 of the 5K. In his first 5K ever, Fisher ran 13:39, which is the seventh-fastest time run by a junior in American history.
Michael Slagowski Becomes 9th High Schooler to Go Sub-4
The high schooler had a massive personal best over the weekend which resulted in a sub-four minute mile. Michael Slagowski went from being a 4:05 miler to a 3:59 miler at the Nike Jesuit Relays in Portland. His performance is now the seventh-fastest mile by a high school runner in history.

The high school senior from Billings, Montana threw down a dominant performance over the pros at Payton Jordan by winning heat 2 of the 1500m in 4:11.24. The performance is a five-second personal best for the Stanford commit and stands as No. 4 all-time. The performance is also just two seconds off qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
