Genzebe Dibaba Runs Fastest 2000m Ever
Competing in Sabadell, Spain, 1500m world record holder and Olympic silver medalist Genzebe Dibaba ran 5:23.75 for 2000 meters--faster than any woman ever. That's averaging 64.75 seconds per lap, which would put her through 1600 meters in 4:19 or so.
Sabadell is the same city in Spain where Dibaba's then-coach, Jama Aden, was arrested in a doping bust last year. It's at least Dibaba's seventh world record and sixth indoor world record--she holds world bests in the outdoor 1500m and indoor 1500m, mile, 3K, 5K, and two mile. The old world record in the indoor 2K was 5:30; the outdoor world record is Sonia O'Sullivan's 5:25.
