Donavan Brazier Ran The Earliest Sub-1:45 800m In U.S. History
This past weekend Donavan Brazier threw down a monster 800m run at the Sun Angel Classic. After doing a little research it turns out Brazier's 1:44.63 set on April 8th was the earliest sub-1:45 800m performance in U.S. history. In fact, only five men have ever broken 1:45 by the end of April.
Both Erik Sowinski and Duane Solomon have run faster, however their performances came 11 days later into the season.
Running fast early is becoming a trend in the U.S. as four of the five marks are from the past four seasons.
Brazier spoke with FloTrack after his 1:44.63:
ATHLETE | Sub-1:45 | DATE | LATER THAT YEAR? | LIFETIME PB |
Duane Solomon | 1:43.88 | 04/19/14 | 1st at USAs | 1:42.82 |
Erik Sowinski | 1:44.58 | 04/19/14 | 3rd at USAs | 1:44.58 |
Donavan Brazier | 1:44.63 | 04/08/17 | TBD | 1:43.55 |
Khadevis Robinson | 1:44.98 | 04/15/06 | 1st at USAs | 1:43.68 |
Shaquille Walker | 1:44.99 | 04/09/16 | 11th at USAs | 1:44.99 |
