Hosted in the northwest Ohio city of Lima, the AAU Region 4 meet will pit some of the Buckeye State's most promising young talent against rivals from New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Some return with experience from the national level in 2015, while others are newbies with marks that clock in far beyond the nearest competitor. This showdown in Lima is going to be tight!

GIRLS

9-year-old Shot Put

Who: McKenzie Neal
When: Sunday, 8:00 a.m. CT
Why: Neal will compete as the top seed in the shot and javelin this weekend, but her talents aren't limited to the field events—she’ll race the 100m as well! Last year in the national meet, she threw 24-2.50m for the win. This year, she’s already bettered that mark this year by throwing 26-02.5m! It’s possible Neal could leave with three regional titles this weekend.

10-year-old Shot Put

Who: Savannah Hameed
When: Sunday, 8:00 a.m. CT
Why: A Ohio native, Hameed finished second at 2015 nationals as a 9-year-old with a hurl of 23-02m. This year, she returns as top seed in the event—her mark of 24-04.75 is almost six meters ahead of the next closest mark in the field. Look to her to DOMINATE on Sunday!

11-year old 100m

Who: Alani Hodge
When: Prelims - Saturday, 9:00 a.m. CT
Why: Returning as the 10-year-old national champ, Hodge will take on a field replete with Ohio talent. Last year, Hodge breezed through her national semifinal to take the crown, but will her success at the 11-year-old level be just as great?

11-year-old 400m

Who: Deyanna Champion, Teresa Christian, and Emoni Saxton
When: Saturday, 9:00 a.m. CT
Why: Seed times across this field are tight, and the competition is bound to be fierce! Mere tenths of a second separate the three Ohio standouts who will lead the field. Some, like Saxton, have experience on the AAU national level, while others like Champion show promise in their first qualifiers meet.

BOYS

9-year-old Long Jump

Who: Jaeden Ricketts
When: Saturday, 8:00 a.m. CT
Why: Rickets qualified for nationals in three events last year! He finished as semifinalist in the 100m and 200m nationals, and placed 17th in the long jump at nationals in 2015. With the exception of any dark horses in the field, the triple-threat is expected to rule the competition this weekend in Lima.

10-year-old Shot Put

Who: Seth Savage
When: Saturday, 8:00 a.m. CT
Why: Savage finished 16th last year in the nine-year-old shot put competition, but is looking to improve his standings in 2016. His 23-03m mark is comfortably ahead of the next-best thrower in the field, but Saturday will set the tone for his success this summer.

11-year-old High Jump

Who: John Hall
When: Sunday, 8:00 a.m. CT
Why: Hall does it all. He’s a top-ranked high jumper, is seeded third in the 800m, and in a super-tight field in the 80m hurdles, he's only behind the leader by tenths of a second. It’s no surprise that Hall has dabbled in AAU Triathlon events, but 2016 could be the year he establishes his place at top of the national stage in one event.
