The IAAF has heard your pleas. After quarantining Bostwanan 200m / 400m medal favorite Isaac Makwala from competing in his 200m heat and the 400m final yesterday due to the athlete contracting food poisoning at a British hotel, the IAAF will give Makwala a final chance to advance to the 200m semifinals via a time trial to be conducted later today, according to BBC News Sports Correspondent Natalie Pirks.

Details on the trial are still being finalized, including whether or not Makwala will bump any of the already-qualified athletes out if he advances. If confirmed this will give Makwala one last chance at taking down 400m world record holder Wayde van Niekerk at a distance that arguably favors Makwala.

​Update: ​The IAAF has published an article clarifying details of the time trial, including the fact that it will be contested at 6:40 PM London time tonight, before any of the track events start, and it will take place in his originally designated lane, number seven. The article also clarified that no athletes will be bumped out of the semifinals.
