The time was hardly a surprise as LSU entered the meet having recorded the collegiate record of 37.90 in the event to win the SEC Championships on their home track in Baton Rouge on May 13. That time currently stands as the fastest in the world this year. The collegiate record shaved .34 seconds off of the previous LSU record that was set in 1998, and is the third top-10 time in LSU history produced by the squad this season.
Texas Tech (38.20) and Florida (38.22) joined LSU as heat winners advancing to Friday's final. Other qualifiers include Florida State (38.27), Louisville (38.49), Alabama State (38.56), Georgia (38.62), Iowa (38.64) and Arizona State (38.67).
