Everlyn Kemboi Wins 10,000m For Utah Valley's First National Title
Everlyn Kemboi of Utah Valley pulled away from the field with two laps to go and set a facility record with 32:29.08 as she won the 10,000m on Thursday.
AUSTIN – Everlyn Kemboi of Utah Valley pulled away from the field with two laps to go and set a facility record with 32:29.08 as she won the 10,000m on Thursday night at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Kemboi ran the final mile of the race in 4:51, including closing laps of 1:09.46 and 108.81 to win the national title by more than eight seconds. The victory gave Utah State its first national title in program history.
With a new Facility Record - Everlyn Kemboi earns the 10000M title with a time of 32:39.08!!

After the race, Kemboi said she doesn't plan to return for her senior season.
"No, I'm done. I want to go home," Kemboi said. "Yeah, I want to go professional, so I'm going to go home to train. We have lots of good runners in Kenya, and my goal is to go to the Olympics."
Emily Venters of Utah finished in second place at 32:47.70, while defending champion Mercy Chelangat of Alabama was third with 32.49.62.
"I've been we've been racing her the whole season," Kemboi said of racing against Chelangat. "So, I've been watching videos, doing my studies, working on my training, and waiting to see what I would do in nationals. And I knew I would do good."
