Kenneth Rooks Of BYU Wins Men's 3000m Steeplechase At NCAA Championships
Kenneth Rooks of BYU established a new facility record in winning the men's 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
AUSTIN -- Kenneth Rooks of BYU established a new facility record in winning the men's 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Rooks finished with a time of 8:26.17, lowering the stadium record of 8:27.62 set in 2013 by Henry Lelei of Texas A&M.

Rookswas followed by Duncan Hamilton of Montana State (8:32.18) and Victor Kibiego of UTEP (8:32.49).
The race was close throughout, with Rooks, Hamilton, and Kibiego leading the pack for most of the race. Rooks made his move with about 600 meters to go and pulled away from the field to win by more than five seconds.
"That last lap, I felt good," Rooks said. "I really like to lead going fast, because I get a clear look at the barriers, and it helps me gets some clean hurdles. It gives me a lot of confidence when the person behind me is starting to drop a little bit. I really like being in the lead when I'm going fast."
