With Wilson and Hayles breathing down his neck, Lemonious admitted that maintaining poise was difficult.
"It was very hard on me," he said. "We've been practicing that, like, the whole season. Coach knew that my weakness had been the last three hurdles, as you guys could see. I just tried to recover pretty hard, and it worked out."
Omotade Ojo of USC, Giano Roberts of Clemson, Darius Luff of Nebraska, Connor Schulman of Texas A&M, and Rasheem Brown of Tennessee rounded out the top eight finishers. Cameron Murray of NC State did not finish the race.
The race was close throughout, with Lemonious, Wilson, and Hayles all running neck-and-neck. Lemonious pulled away in the final few meters to win by a margin of 0.02 seconds. Wilson and Hayles both set personal bests in the race.
Lemonious's victory is his first individual national title. He is the first Arkansas athlete to win the 110m hurdles since 2006.
