Oregon's Jorinde Van Klinken Sets Meet Record, 3-Peats As NCAA Discus Champ
Jorinde Van Klinken of Oregon set a new meet record to repeat as champion in the women's discus at the 2023 Outdoor NCAA Track & Field Championships.
AUSTIN -- Jorinde Van Klinken of Oregon set a new meet record to 3-peat as champion in the women's discus at the 2023 Outdoor NCAA Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Van Klinken unloaded a throw of 65.55m/215-0 on her third attempt to break the meet record she set while competing for Arizona State in 2021.
The Duck senior joined Seilala Sea of UCLA (1997-2000) as the only women to win three consecutive titles in the event. Van Klinken wonder first two while competing for Arizona State.
"Obviously, it's great to win another title, you know that's always something to be super proud of," Van Klinken said. "It's really just the icing on the cake of all these years of hard work, and it's amazing to me to end my collegiate career this way."

Van Klinken, who finished her career having never lost a discus competition, said it was easy to think that after she first set the NCAA meet record as a sophomore that more records would have come easier, but two years of added perspective has given her a better appreciation of how difficult that really is.
"It was kind of crazy because I set it two years ago, my first year in college athletics," she said. "So, it would have been possible obviously throughout last year, but then it was raining a lot. So, then I didn't really have the chance. My main goal today was to deliver some good technique and hopefully throw the distance, and I think three throws over 65 is a very good accomplishment."
Senior Ashley Anumba of Virginia finished second with a fourth-round throw of 61.13m/200-6.
Freshman Alida van Daalen of Florida placed third with her best throw of 59.96m/196-9 coming in the third round.
