Sprint And Hurdle Star Britton Wilson Goes Pro
Arkansas star Britton Wilson has turned professional after an incredible collegiate career.
Britton Wilson, who won national championships and set NCAA records at Arkansas, will forego her remaining eligibility and turn professional.
The sports agency HSI announced the news on social media on Wednesday.
After a heralded prep career, Wilson began college at Tennessee. She transferred to Arkansas in 2022, joining a powerful sprint and hurdle group in Fayetteville.
Wilson won the 400m hurdles at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Later that summer she represented the United States at the World Athletics Championships, finishing fifth in the 400m hurdles. She also was a member of the U.S. 4x400m relay team that won gold.
In 2023, she went up another level.
Indoors, Wilson broke the collegiate and American records in the 400m and won a national title in the event. Outdoors, she broke the 400m record on several occasions, eventually lowering it to 49.13. Wilson stood out for her versatility, stamina, and bold attempts at history. She completed the 400m/400m hurdle double at the SEC Championships and also posted an 800m personal best of 2:02.13 from the indoor season.
At the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Wilson tried for a historic 400m/400m hurdle, despite there only being 25 minutes in between events. She came up short--finishing second in the 400m and seventh in the 400m hurdles.
Wilson leaves college with five of the six fastest women’s 400m races ever run and the third fastest mark in the 400m hurdles.
