EUGENE -- Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya used a furious kick to win the men's 800m in a personal-best and world-leading 1:42.80 at the Diamond League Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field.
The 19-year-old's time also obliterated the meet record of 1:43.63 set in 2014 by Nigel Amos of Botswana.
"I tried my best," Wanyonyi said.
A meet record, national record, and personal best in the top 3?!

Jamaican pacer Navasky Anderson set a blistering tempo, coming through the first quarter in 49.19. From there is it was world champion Marco Arop of Canada who pushed on strong, clearly eyeing Brandon McBride's Canadian record of 1:43.20 in the final meet of the season.
But Wanyonyi, who finished behind Arop in Budapest, was too strong and overtook everyone at the line for the victory and his first Diamond League trophy.
Arop finished second in 1:42.85, getting the national record he sought, but not the win. Djamal Sedjati of Algeria finished third in a personal-best 1:43.06 and Yanis Meziane of France took fourth in a personal-best 1:43.94.
American Bryce Hoppel placed sixth in 1:44.63.
