Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela established a new world-leading mark to win the women's triple jump at the Diamond League Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field.
EUGENE -- Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela ended her season on a high note, establishing a new world-leading mark and meet record of 15.35m/50-4.5 to win the women's triple jump at the Diamond League Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field.
In the early going, it appeared that Rojas might be headed for another stressful competition. At the World Championships last month, she struggled with her stride and barely made the top eight, then fouled her fourth and fifth attempts before landing a 15.08m/49-5.75 mark on her final jump to win the gold.

After another foul in Round 4, Rojas landed what would turn out to be her winning jump, bettering her previous world-leading mark of 15.18m/49-9.75 and the meet record of 15.04m/49-4.25 set by Yekaterina Koneva of Russia in 2015.
Ricketts tried to answer, hitting a 15-meter jump in Round 5 and then a 15.03m/49-3.75 jump on her final attempt to finish in second place. Williams came in third by way of her Round 3 jump of 14.61m/47-11.25.
