After Record-Breaking Season At Texas, Julien Alfred Secures The Bowerman
The St. Lucian native became the second woman from the University of Texas to win the Bowerman since 2016
Following a record-breaking season at the University of Texas, Julien Alfred, the six-time NCAA champion over the indoor and outdoor seasons for the Longhorns, was selected as the women's Bowerman winner on Thursday at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Aurora, Colorado.
Alfred had a nearly flawless season in 2023, capturing indoor national titles in the 60m and 200m before following with outdoor wins in the 100m and 200m at the NCAA Championships.
The Longhorns also secured an outdoor national title in the 4x100, clocking a preliminary time of 41.55 before going on to claim the victory in the finals -- with Alfred on the anchor.
A native of St. Lucia, Alfred became Edrick Floreal's most prolific athlete at Texas this year -- and potentially in program history -- after she secured wind-legal outdoor times of 10.83 and 21.91, which accounted for the fourth- and second-best efforts for a collegian all-time.
Indoors, Alfred finished with career best times of 6.94 and 22.01, the latter being the second-fastest mark in world history.
Alfred became the second female Bowerman winner from Texas, following the likes of Courtney Okolo, who won the 2016 honor.
In 2022, Alfred won NCAA outdoor titles in the 4x100 and 100m. She was named as a Bowerman semifinalist.
