Brooks announced a new footwear sponsorship deal with two-time U.S. Olympian Kara Goucher on Monday.
According to a report by Footwearnews.com, the deal includes a footwear sponsorship as well as speaking engagement and athlete collaboration opportunities. The deal will begin officially with the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials this weekend in Orlando.
Goucher began her professional running career with a sponsorship by Nike. In 2014 she signed a multi-year agreement with the Skechers Performance Elite Team, before moving to Altra in 2018.
Goucher’s ability to run competitively at a high level was halted in November of 2021 when she was diagnosed with a neurological movement disorder called dystonia.
“Kara’s lived experiences and her passion for bringing attention to the humans behind incredible performances,” a release from Brooks read. “The goal is for Goucher to help inspire runners and show how the sport can help change lives.”
But the 45-year-old remains a prominent figure in the distance running community, through social media, television commentary, advocacy for clean sport, and her podcast, Nobody Asked Us with fellow Brooks athlete Desiree Linden.
According to Footwearnews.com, Goucher will play a central role in Brooks’ events throughout 2024, including at competitions and via Brooks’ community impact programs such as Future Run, a $10 million commitment to running programs across the country. She will also be present at the Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene and the Paris 2024 Olympics.
“I’m excited to work with Brooks on this new partnership and share my excitement and belief of the impact that running can have,” Goucher said in a statement. “Telling the amazing stories of runners is something I’ve always been passionate about, and Brooks makes for an incredible teammate as we continue to advocate for the power of the run to improve the sport for future generations.”
