Christopher Morales Williams' World Indoor 400m Record Will Not Be Ratified
Unfortunate news out of NCAA track and field, as Georgia sophomore's Christopher Morales-Williams' 400m performance will not be ratified.
Christopher Morales Williams' world record 400 meter time from the SEC Indoor Championships on Saturday has hit a roadblock, with the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association reporting on Tuesday that the performance will not be ratified by World Athletics due to a starting block issue.
Morales Williams clocked a blindingly fast time of 44.49 seconds in the final of the men's 400m, passing Michael Norman's former world and NCAA record of 44.52 to become the first collegiate athlete in history under 44.50.
But with it not being ratified, the performance will now stand as a world best. It reportedly will still stand as an NCAA record.
The USTFCCCA added that Morales Williams was drug-tested after the race, saying "so that wasn't an issue." LetsRun's Jonathan Gault added on Twitter that "Rule 31.14.5. Blocks neet to be linked to a WA-certified Start Information System," as the rule prohibiting Morales Williams' record from being ratified.
