American Heritage's Boys Clock 39.39, Secure Florida History In 4x100
The American Heritage High School boys 4x100 team became the first to go under 40 seconds in Florida history on Friday at the state championships.
A Florida high school boys program secured a momentous performance on Friday, becoming the first in state history to clock a time under 40 seconds in the 4x100 relay.
Plantation American Heritage ran 39.39 seconds in the FHSAA Class 3A Championship final at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville to secure the second-fastest performance in high school history and enter the team into the pantheon of the event's history.

The only other team in high school history to run faster has been Humble Atascocita, and that time, coincidentally enough, came in 2024, with the Texas program scoring their national record in 38.92 seconds in March at the Victor Lopez Classic in Houston.
Recently, Atascocita followed that mark at the Texas state championships on May 4 with a time of 39.14 seconds, which effectively gave the program the two-fastest overall performances in history.
American Heritage, however, isn't far behind.
Led by three sophomores and a senior, the Miami-area team supplanted the former state record of 40.09, which last was accomplished by Boyd Anderson in 1998. Heritage's school record stood at 40.14 seconds, which came in 2018 and ranked the team third in state history before Friday -- that team also featured three future NFL draft picks.
American Heritage's 4x100 lineup consisted of Braylen Bennett, Xavier Lucas, Brandon Bennett and Zamarii Sanders, in that order. Sanders later went on to win the 200m final in 20.58 (-0.2) seconds. Brandon Bennett, Lucas and Braylen Bennett went 1-2-3 in the 100m.
The Patriots, led in part by those performances, scored a total of 76 points and won the Class 3A team title.
The Florida team became the first in state history under the mark and just the 11th in history to go under 40 seconds across the U.S. Six U.S. high school programs secured marks over 40 seconds in 2024.
Miami Northwestern was second in 40.51 seconds, while Choctawhatchee was third in 40.57.
