Erriyon Knighton Receives No Fault Violation From Independent Arbitrator

Erriyon Knighton, the 20-year-old American sprinter and two-time World Championship silver medalist, received a no fault violation from an independent arbitrator on Wednesday following a positive drug test in March.

On March 26, 2024, Knighton tested positive for a "metabolite of trenbolone" during an out-of-competition drug test, according to a United States Anti-doping Agency report. Trenbolone is a "non-specified substance in the category of Anabolic Agents, and is prohibited at all times" across governing bodies in the sport.

Following a two-day hearing on June 14 and 16, the independent arbitrator determined that Knighton's test was most likely caused by consuming meat contaminated with the steroid.

Following his positive test without fault or negligence, Knighton was suspended on April 12, 2024, but after just over two months, the suspension is lifted effective immediately on Wednesday, just days ahead of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Due to the hearing being expedited to resolve the matter before the Trials, the arbitrator supplied an operative award and abbreviated document that conveys solely the ruling.

Knighton is set to compete in Eugene in just over a week, with the opening rounds of the men's 200m slated for next Thursday at 5:51 P.M (PST).
