Cole Hocker Wins Second U.S. Title At 1,500m, Eight Under Old Meet Record

Cole Hocker bottled up some Hayward Magic in Eugene on Monday, leading six men under the Olympic Standard and eight under the old U.S. Trials record as he won his second national 1,500m title in a time of 3:30.59.

That time is the third-fastest in the world today and bests his PR from 2023 when he ran 3:30.70 in Budapest.

In what was the fastest 1,500m race in U.S. Olympic Trials history, the 23-year-old former University of Oregon runner made his move on the backstretch,  going from fourth to first in a matter of seconds, forcing both Yared Nuguse and Hobbs Kessler to respond.

Around the final curve, Hocker put just enough distance between himself and the defending U.S. champion Nuguse, breaking the tape in 3:30.59.

Hocker closed in 52.63, holding the fastest final lap of the field.

For Nuguse (3:30.86) and Kessler (3:31.53), they'll become first-time Olympians as the United States sends one of it's strongest 1,500m teams in recent memory to Paris.
