EUGENE -- Using the power of the Hayward Field crowd down the homestretch, Quincy Hall came out on top in a field of nine men who all had the Olympic standard, finishing the U.S. Olympic Trials 400 meter final in a winning time of 44.17 seconds.

Hall, 25, the former University of South Carolina athlete, surged past Michael Norman over the last 50 meters, qualifying for his first Olympic Games.

Norman followed in 44.41 seconds.

Not only was it a new lifetime best for Hall, the former 400 meter hurdler, but it was also the fifth-fastest time in the world this year. A year ago, Hall finished third at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in the 400m and finished with the bronze at the World Championships in Budapest.

It was also a good day for anyone named Quincy in the field, as high school and World U18 record-holder Quincy Wilson finished sixth, keeping himself very much in contention for the relay pool and opening the door to compete on either the men's 4x400m or mixed 4x400m.

Wilson crossed the finish line in 44.94, securing his third straight performance under 45 seconds across four days.

Rounding out the American trio that's heading to Paris next month is the pairing of Norman and Chris Bailey, who crossed in second and third in 44.41 and 44.42, respectively.
