How To Watch The Diamond League Monaco 2024
The Diamond League Monaco 2024 will take place July 12 as the ninth stop of the 15-event Diamond League season. Here’s how to follow the action.
The ninth event of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season, also known as the Herculis EBS Monaco, is the second meet back after a hiatus of nearly a month for the Diamond League, which returned to action in Paris July 7.
The first seven events on the 2024 Diamond League schedule took place between April 20 and June 2. In the weeks since, many countries have been busy finalizing their rosters for the 2024 Olympic Games, set to take place in Paris from July 26 through Aug. 11. The track and field events will be held Aug. 1-11.
That said, some athletes likely are turning their attention toward training for the Olympics, and while their absences may be felt in Monaco (and London on July 20), there still should be plenty of excitement and top-tier performance in the Diamond League events.

The Herculis EBS Monaco/Diamond League Monaco 2024 will take place at Stade Louis II, which primarily is used for soccer, including as the home venue for AS Monaco and Monaco’s national soccer team. The open-air venue has room for more than 16,000 sports fans.
The 2024 Diamond League season kicked off at the end of April with a pair of stops in China – Xiamen and Shanghai/Suzhou – and then visited Qatar on May 10, Morocco on May 19, Eugene, Oregon (Prefontaine Classic), on May 25, Oslo (Bislett Games) on May 30, Stockholm (BAUHAUS-galan) on June 2 and Paris on July 7.
During the 15-event Diamond League schedule this year, athletes will cross the globe, with the season-ending championship event taking places in Brussels, Belgium, on Sept. 13-14. There will be a short break in the schedule for the 2024 Olympics in early August.
The Diamond League Monaco 2024 will include seven men’s disciplines and seven women’s disciplines, as athletes continue collecting points toward the year’s final event in Belgium.
The invitation-only Diamond League brings together the most elite track & field athletes to showcase their skills, earn prize money, collect points toward the season-ending championship event and ultimately elevate the status of athletics across the globe.
Traditionally, Diamond League competition includes a slate of 16 disciplines, though not every meet features all of them.
Points accumulated during the first 14 events of the season determine the athletes who advance to the final event, where they compete for more prize money and Diamond League titles.
The disciplines featured in Monaco in 2024 will be:
Men
- 200 Meters
- 400 Meters
- 800 Meters
- 1,500 Meters
- 110-Meter Hurdles
- 400-Meter Hurdles
- High Jump
Women
- Javelin
- Pole Vault
- Triple Jump
- 100 Meters
- 400 Meters
- 2,000 Meters
- 5,000 Meters
In the Diamond League’s return to action July 7, world records were set in the women’s high jump and women’s 1,500, and while those events won’t be taking place in Monaco, there will be plenty of stars with their own sights set on the record books.
The Herculis EBS Monaco, like all Diamond League events, will feature a variety of Olympic and world champions and record holders, including a three Olympic gold-medal favorites in the men’s 400-meter hurdles – world record holder Karsten Warholm of Norway, Brazil’s Alison dos Santos and Rai Benjamin of the United States.
Another American hurdler expected to make noise in Monaco before heading to the Olympics is Grant Holloway in the 110-meter event.
There also will be a rematch of the first- and third-place finishers from the men’s 800-meter event in Paris – Djamel Sedjati (Algeria) and Gabriel Tual (France). They’ll be joined by reigning world champion in the event, Marco Arop of Canada. The runner-up in Paris, Emmanuel Wanyonyi was scheduled to compete, too, but he isn’t listed on the current roster.
In the women’s field, Australia’s Jessica Hull, who finished second in the 1,500 in Paris (behind the world-record time of 3:49.04 by Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon), will be back on the track in Monaco, this time looking for success at 2,000 meters.
The women’s 100 meters also is expected to produce some fireworks, so much so that it’s actually the final event on the schedule. Among the participants will be world indoor champion Julien Alfred of St. Lucia.
In the women’s pole vault, three past world champions will do battle – Nina Kennedy (Australia), Katie Moon (United States) and Molly Caudery (Great Britain). Caudery owns the best performance among the three in 2024, a 4.92m effort in June.
One man who will be visibly absent from the Monaco meet will be reigning 100- and 200-meter world champion Noah Lyles of the United States, who withdrew from the event to focus on his Olympic training.
Lyles won the 100 and the 200 at the recent U.S. Olympic Trials in Oregon and is looking to become the first American man since Carl Lewis in 1984 to win the double at the Olympics. Lyles was scheduled to run the 200 in Monaco.
