At just 24-years-old, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is getting prepped for her third Olympic Games, and for the first time, she's the defending champion.

Here's what you need to know about one of the greatest athletes in the world.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Is Already A Three-Time Olympian

When she was only 16-years-old, the New Jersey native finished third in the Women's 400mH final at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, running a new U18 world record of 54.15. In Rio de Janeiro, as a high schooler, McLaughlin-Levrone made it all the way to the semi-finals, giving fans just a glimpse of what was to come.

In a near-empty stadium in Tokyo just three years ago, McLaughlin-Levrone took down the defending gold medalist and fellow American Dalilah Muhammad, as she surged past to win in 51.46 to Muhammad's 51.58.

Once she step on the track in Paris, McLaughlin-Levrone will be seeking her second Olympic gold before and possibly another world record.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Has Broken The World Record Five Times

On five different occasions over the course of her six-year professional career, McLaughlin-Levrone has broken the 400mH world record, all while running unprecedented times.

It all started at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials, where McLaughlin-Levrone won her first national title while clocking 51.9, making her the first woman ever under 52 seconds. Just a few months later, she did it again, this time in a near-empty stadium in Tokyo, running down Muhammad and crossing in 51.68.

A year later, the superstar broke her own world record twice at Hayward Field in Tracktown USA, running 51.41 at the 2022 US Championships and then again at the World Championships, where she became the first woman under 51 seconds, running 50.68.

Most recently, McLaughlin-Levrone took a few milliseconds off of her mark at the 2024 U.S. Trials, with the clock reading 50.65.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Has The High School NCAA, American & World Record In The 400mH

With enough accolades to already be considered the greatest to ever run the 400mH, McLaughlin-Levrone has left her mark on the event at every single level she competed in.

In high school, the Union Catholic (NJ) legend broke the high school national record at the 2017 US Championships, where she finished 6th in 53.82.

After joining the University of Kentucky program that fall, it only took her just three races before she shattered the collegiate record of 53.21, lowering it down to 52.75 at the 2018 SEC Outdoor Championships.

The cherry on top of her long and growing list of accolades is her combo of the American record and world record, a pair she's owned since 2021.
