The plethora of track and field events are being held from Aug. 1 through Aug. 11. Things got out to a brisk start Thursday with the 20-kilometer race walk, and things will only speed up with a full slate of competition Friday.
Entering the week, it looked like the speedy 16-year-old Quincy Wilson of the United States might be making his Olympic debut in the mixed 4x400, but he was not selected for the opening round. It’s still possible for him to be substituted in for the final or to be selected for the men’s 4x400.
Regardless of who’s on the track for each country, the competition will be intense and exciting.

Who Are The 4x400 Favorites At The 2024 Summer Olympics In Paris?
Mixed
The mixed 4x400 relay made its Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2020, with Poland winning the inaugural title. Silver and bronze went to the Dominican Republic and United States, respectively.
In the time since, Team USA has been the front-runner, including a world championship in 2023, but there are many teams with their eyes on the top spot this time around.
The list of contenders includes the Netherlands, led by superstar Femke Bol, who fell during the final stretch of that 2023 race in Budapest, allowing the United States to cruise to the win.
Other contenders include Ireland, Great Britain, Italy and more – this will be a battle.
Men
In the men’s 4x400, the United States is the two-time defending Olympic champion, having won in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020. The Team USA men actually have won the title a record 17 times and enter as the reigning world champions, too (2023).
Women
The women’s event has been dominated by the United States since the Atlanta games in 1996, and Team USA will be looking to make it eight consecutive Olympic gold medals.
As mentioned in the "mixed" section, there are some talented athletes out there taking aim at Team USA. For example, should Bol make the starting line for the Netherlands, she'll be a huge factor.
