Sha'Carri Richardson Was A Menace On The Track Before She Went Pro
Throughout high school, Richardson -- now 24 years old -- was a very tough athlete to beat, losing just 10 times in the 100m and 200m over her three-year high school career at Dallas Carter.
In that span, Richardson collected five UIL titles in the 100m and 200m, with personal bests of of 11.12 and 23.02, with the former being the 11th-fastest time in prep history.
After taking her talents to Baton Rouge, where she joined the LSU Tigers track program, Richardson made an immediate impact on the collegiate landscape.
During her freshman campaign, the Texas native picked up three SEC titles, two first-team All American honors and a national title in the 100m.
That title-clinching run remains the collegiate record and hasn't been touched in five years.
Sha'Carri Richardson Won Her First World Title Out Of Lane Eight
Last summer in her World Championships debut, Richardson made her way to the final -- following a nervy semifinal moment where she needed to qualify through by time -- where she shifted gears to move past the Jamaican duo of Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
Richardson won all the way out of lane eight, stopping the clock at 10.65. That performance is tied for the fifth-fastest performance of all-time and the fourth-fastest by an American woman.
Richardson also anchored the American 4x100m relay to a world title, as Tamari Davis, Twanisha Terry and Gabby Thomas all combined for a new championship record of 41.03. Richardson also finished third in the 200m.
Sha'Carri Richardson Is The Future Of Sprints
Last summer alone, Richardson won both world titles in the 100m and 4x100m, as well as earning bronze in the 200m, cementing a U.S. 2-3 finish behind Gabby Thomas.
Over 100m, Richardson is the fastest American woman since 2009, and the fourth American under 10.7.
Since 2000, eight women around the world have clocked 10.75 or faster in the 100m, and Richardson is the only one that is currently less than 30-years-old.
Not even 25, Richardson is in line to become one of the greatest to ever do it and is already well on her way.
