2024 Olympic Track And Field Schedule For Aug. 4: 100-Meter Showdown Ahead

The fourth day of track and field competition at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will feature an exciting mix of track events and field events, including the highly anticipated conclusion of the men’s 100 meters.

The track and field portion of this year’s Olympics began Aug. 1 and will end Aug. 11. 

All competition is being held in and around Stade de France in Paris. 

The early portion of the day will be preliminary or qualifying rounds for women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, women’s hammer throw, women’s 200 meters, women’s 400-meter hurdles, men’s long jump, men’s 110-meter hurdles and men’s 400 meters.

Starting Sunday at 1:50 p.m. Eastern, medalists will be determined in the women’s high jump, followed by the men’s hammer throw at 2:30 p.m. EDT. 

The day will end with what is expected to be a showdown between Team USA’s Noah Lyles and Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson for the gold medal in the men’s 100 (3:55 p.m. EDT).

Mixed in, will be the semifinals of the men’s 100, women’s 800 and men’s 1,500.

It’s a day that has a little something for every type of track and field fan.

  • 4:05 a.m.: Women's 3,000m Steeplechase Round 1, Stade de France
  • 4:20 a.m.: Women's Hammer Throw Qualification - Group A, Stade de France
  • 4:55 a.m.: Women's 200m Round 1, Stade de France
  • 5 a.m.: Men's Long Jump Qualification, Stade de France
  • 5:45 a.m.: Women's Hammer Throw Qualification - Group B, Stade de France
  • 5:50 a.m.: Men's 110m Hurdles Round 1, Stade de France
  • 6:35 a.m.: Women's 400m Hurdles Round 1, Stade de France
  • 1:05 p.m.: Men's 400m Round 1, Stade de France
  • 1:50 p.m.: Women's High Jump Final, Stade de France
  • 2 p.m.: Men's 100m Semifinal, Stade de France
  • 2:30 p.m.: Men's Hammer Throw Final, Stade de France
  • 2:40 p.m.: Women's 800m Semifinal, Stade de France
  • 3:15 p.m.: Men's 1,500m Semifinal, Stade de France
  • 3:55 p.m.: Men's 100m Final, Stade de France

Semifinals Set For Men’s 100m At 2024 Summer Olympics

After eight heats in the men’s 100 meters Friday, the list of athletes who qualified for the semifinals didn’t offer many surprises, but some of the performances may have raised a few eyebrows heading into the next round.

The fastest times of the day belonged to a pair of Americans – Kenny Bednarek and Fred Kerley – who each got the job done in 9.97 seconds. Collegiate sensation Louie Hinchliffe (9.98), Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme (9.98) and Jamaica’s Oblique Seville (9.99) were the other sub-10 performances of the day.

Thompson, who owns the year’s fastest time, won the opening heat with a 10.00 performance. 

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was when Hinchliffe’s effort bested Lyles, who advanced with a time of 10.04.

The Olympics are on the NBC family of networks, including the Peacock streaming app. 

All track and field events will be broadcast live on Peacock, but additional coverage will be provided as follows (all times Eastern):

  • 4 a.m.: Heats – Men’s 110m Hurdles & More (USA)
  • 6 a.m.: Olympics – Track & Field, Volleyball (Spanish) (Telemundo)
  • 12:30 p.m.: NBC Daytime – Track & Field, Swimming (NBC)
  • 1 p.m.: Finals – Men’s 100m & More (USA)
  • 1 p.m.: Olympics – Track & Field (Spanish) (Telemundo)
  • 7 p.m.: NBC Primetime – NBC Primetime in Paris (NBC)
