What Valarie Allman And More Said At the Olympics: Top Quotes From Monday
What did the top athletes from the track and field say after their performances on Monday? We recapped the best quotes.
Monday's performances on the track and in the field at the Paris Olympics were breathtaking.
The day's action ended with a world record in the pole vault inside Stade de France with 70,000 fans watching, and it concluded with Mondo Duplantis, competing for Sweden, uncorking a new record with a mark of 6.25 meters.
But that wasn't all.
American Valerie Allman won her second Olympic title in the discus -- becoming the first U.S. women to achieve the feat -- while British athlete Keely Hodgkinson finally got over the hump of her runner-up finishes of yesteryear, winning the Olympic 800 meter title with a brilliant tactical race.
FloTrack's Bryan Deibel was in the mixed zone in Paris tracking all of the athletes and picking up their thoughts following all of these historical and memorable moments. Check out some of the top thoughts below.

Mondo Duplantis On Setting A World Record And Winning Another Olympic Title:
It's hard, hard to understand, honestly. If I don't beat this moment in my career, then I'm pretty, pretty OK with that. You know, I don't think you can really get much better than what just happened. So it's dang amazing and I'm so, I'm happy man.
I think I visualized this moment a million times in my life. I mean, this is ...every time I was in my backyard, I felt like I would just imagine the bar was at the world record. It was the Olympic finals. It was pretty much exactly what I visualized. And so when I was in the back of the runway, I felt like I had already been in this moment 1,000 times almost, because I 've had this dream since I was pretty much just a little kid in my parent's backyard. For it to actually happen the way it did and for me to put the right jump together at the right time, it's just like, how do you explain it? It's bigger than words.
Valarie Allman Tried To Embrace Her Last Throw:
I was ready to fight come round six, because I know the competitors in women's discus are so talented and were going to be giving their best in the competition. But to walk into the ring having one attempt left knowing I had already won, it was hard fighting back tears. I wanted to embrace the crowd. I wanted to embrace this moment of being in the Olympics and giving it my all. To end with a throw, with the whole crowd engaged right there, that's one of those moments I'll remember forever.
Sifan Hassan On How She Came To Her Epic Olympic Triple:
I don't know what's wrong with me and I really tell myself every race. I felt like I have a brain issue. But when I go home, I'm like, 'I'm going to do this.'
Karissa Schweizer Made Sure To Race Her Own Race:
It was an amazing field out there, so it was hard to wrap my head around like, 'We're going for a medal,' because I know that would cost me a little bit. I mean, here's Faith and Tsegay and Sifan out there, and they're really incredible runners, but I knew if I ran my race and I just kept picking off each person that I could, that could result in a very high finish. So, yeah, I'm going to keep doing that and hope to show up and be in the fight with a lap to go.
Keely Hodgkinson On Reacting To Her First Olympic 800m Title:
I feel like it hasn't sunk in yet, to be honest. I've worked so hard for this. I just, I don't have the words to say. I feel like, the race didn't go how I thought it was going to go. It was a bit slow at 400m. But you can't predict these things and I just kept composure and feel very common. I just knew if I was in the right mind frame that it would be very hard to beat me.
The British, they love their Olympics. After the Diamond League in London, I knew that kind of cemented me as the favorite. An d to go off the back of that to calm down from the emotions of that, going into a holding camp to try and maintain, if not do better.
Noah Lyles Was Full Of Adrenaline After His 100m Title:
I ain't going to lie. I feel pretty jacked up. That was kind of kind of like getting the legs moving and stuff like that. Me and coach knew we were going to come in and it was going to be a race where we're really just going to have to play it by ear. He said top two. In my heart I said one. In my head, I'm like, 'Win the first 120m, win the second 150m' and then from there, check the surroundings, make adjustments.
Letsile Tebogo Is Grateful Just To Be At The Olympics:
I just had to ask myself why I've started this journey of being an athlete and going forward. So, I found the answers and just kept going. I'm happy with what I've achieved so far. Just making it here was the biggest achievement ever.
Joseph Fahnbulleh Is Ready To Battle And Do Whatever It Takes:
It is dog eat dog world. As you know, Grant Holloway is always there. As you know, Aaron is always there. And also, I'm int he mix now. But when you train with greatness, right, you become great as well. It's only a matter of time. And not only are the men strong but the women as well. You see Anna Hall. You see Jasmine Moore. So not only do you see fierceness from the women, but you see also dog mentality from the men. And then the coaches are, 'Look, do you want to win? Cool, trust me, follow me.' Yes sir. Yes m'am. Fall in line and everything will be OK.
Geordie Beamish Battled Through Physical Hardships To Get To The Line:
I'm pretty gutted, pretty sore. I would have loved to be in that final on Wednesday. And yes, sad not to be there but grateful to make the start line.
Matthew Wilkinson Put His Olympic Performance Into Perspective:
You know, no matter how it went, I knew like there's a good chance I wouldn't make it even if I had my best day. I don't think I quite had my best day. I think I can run faster than that. But yeah, there's just five really good guys. I don't think I was ever going to beat those five guys if they ran how they did. So, I'm still happy with it.
Adaejah Hodge Checked Off A Box To Run In An Olympic Race At 18:
To be honest, I was just dancing to the music in the crowd trying to get my mind off of it. I'm super proud that I made it this far, being able to compete in the Olympics at 18 years old is like a very big accomplishment. I knew that it's going to prepare me for bigger competitions in the future.
Wayde Van Niekerk Still Remains Hungry In This Sport:
I think I'll just reiterate what I just said. I think I'm at the mindset now that I just want to appreciate today. Focus on today. Obviously after today's race, I can immediately say that I still have a bit of nerves and rust to shake off and get that last bit of shift and mindset switch for next round. But yeah, I think today I'm still motivated and ready to compete.
Katie Moon On A Simple Cue That Helped Her Round:
For me, it's all about fast hands. The faster I move my hands in the take-off, the faster everything happens. It's one cue I can focus every bit of energy into and that I can control and that's really helped me kind of keep the emotions (in check).
Trevor Bassitt On How He Analyzed Disappointment Over His First Round:
You can't show up to the Olympic Games and run 49 seconds and think good things are going to happen. So I'm not 100-percent sure what went wrong. But in my experience, normally when I don't know what happened, it means I got tense and tried to bully the race. So I have to talk to the coach to see what happened. But, we have the repechage round tomorrow, which I wanted to avoid, but a second chance is always nice.
