Gabby Thomas Wins Olympic Gold in Women's 200m, Julien Alfred Silver
Gabby Thomas wins first 200m Olympic gold for an American woman since 2012.
It had been 12 years since an American woman won the 200m gold.
On Tuesday at the Paris Olympics, Gabby Thomas put an end to the drought.
Thomas stormed out of the blocks and into the lead within strides, running away with the gold and dominating the field with a time of 21.83 seconds inside Stade de France.
Thomas returned to the Olympic Games just three years removed from earning bronze in Tokyo.
Julien Alfred, the Olympic gold medalist in the 100m, closed hard to finish 22.08 for silver, while Brittney Brown took bronze in 22.20 to make it two Americans on the podium.
When Are The Paris 2024 Olympic Games?
The Olympics begin on July 26 and end on August 11. The track and field events will begin on Aug. 1.
