Watching the world’s best sprinters and runners make their way around Stade de France during the 2024 Olympic Games has been epic – the storylines, the emotions, the legacies. 

But as much fun as the individual accomplishments are, bringing together the top talent to work toward a common goal adds a whole other layer to the anticipation and excitement.

The track and field competition began Aug. 1 and will end Aug. 11. 

The first full day of activity at Stade de France gave fans a taste of the relay experience with the relatively new mixed 4x400, which debuted at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. 

During the qualifying round Friday in Paris, the United States’ team of Vernon Norwood, Shamier Little, Bryce Deadmon and Kaylyn Brown smashed the world record, and their time of 3:07.41 was more than three seconds faster than the next team in the field.

What transpired in the final the following night was just as epic, but not in Team USA’s favor, as an unreal final leg from anchor Femke Bol helped the Netherlands edge Team USA for the gold.

While the silver was an upgrade from the bronze the United States won in the inaugural edition of the race in Japan (behind Poland and the Dominican Republic), Team USA is 0-2 in the new event. That could mean even more motivation heading into the 4x100 and 4x400 relays this week.

Can Noah Lyles Win Gold Again?

So, there’s the redemption angle. There’s also the question about whether Noah Lyles can leave Paris with four gold medals. 

Lyles already won the 100. He’s headed to the final of the 200 – another big-draw part of Thursday’s action. He’s expected to be part of the 4x100. There was talk of him campaigning for a chance to run in the men’s 4x400. Yes, a lot needs to fall into place, but how can you not tune in to find out?

The first round of the women’s 4x100 will get underway Thursday at 5:10 a.m. Eastern. The men will follow at 5:35 a.m.

The final of the men’s 200 will take place at 2:30 p.m. EDT. 

The men’s and women’s 4x400 relays will take place Friday, along with the finals of both 4x100s.

Long story short, the days of track and field in Paris may be winding down, but there will be edge-of-seat action straight through to the final event on Aug. 11.

The other highlights for Thursday include the women’s long jump final, men’s javelin final, women’s 400-meter hurdles final and the final of the men’s 110-meter hurdles.

Team USA Won The Silver Medal In The Mixed 4x400 Relay In Paris

Team USA claimed the silver medal in the mixed 4x400 relay at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. It was an upgrade from bronze at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
