Quincy Hall’s late surge in the 400m final on Aug. 7 at Stade de France at the 2024 Paris Olympics gave the 26-year-old the gold medal. 

Hall, who won bronze at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest became the first American to win the 400-meters since LaShawn Merritt at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Hall reestablishes Team USA dominance in the event as Americans won gold in the men’s 400-meters in every Olympics from 1984-2008.

But America had been shutout in the event in two of the last three Olympics. Merritt’s bronze at in 2016 at Rio de Janeiro is the only medal Team USA had in that time won before Hall’s 400-meters finals performance. 

Hall’s sprint is the fourth-fastest all-time and the third fastest by an American.
