What Sha'Carri Richardson And More Said At The Olympics On Friday

Only two days of track and field remain at the Paris Olympics, but it's all finals from here on out.

On Friday, Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, Gabby Thomas and Sha'Carri Richardson won gold for the first time since 2016 in the women's 4x100m relay.

The men's 4x100m relay team had a different result, getting disqualified after running out of the zone during their second hand-off.

Rai Benjamin won his first gold medal in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 46.46.

Check out the top quotes and moments from Friday's mixed zone.

Gabby Thomas On Passing The Baton To Sha'Carri Richardson:

Passing the baton to Sha'Carri is a very special and unique thing, she's so fast. We know we're in good hands as soon as she gets her hands on the baton. I felt very proud and I was grateful. I was grateful to have competed with these ladies, especially Sha'Carri and we got the gold.

Sha'Carri Richardson On What Was Going Through Her Head During The Anchor Leg:

I just remember trusting. Trusting my third leg, trusting Gabby and knowing that she's going to put that stick in my hand no matter what and to leave my best on the track.

Kyree King On The Execution Of The Men's 4x100m Relay:

We knew what we can do. We came out here and we had the mindset of no risk no reward. We went out there and went big, it didn't happen. It is what it is. We can come back next time and get to it, everybody knows what the deal is with us.

Rai Benjamin On Captioning His Instagram Posts "Captain America":

I feel like I'm the unspoken team captain of these games to be honest with you. Everyday me, Vernon, Shelby, Fred we've been in an arc which is our team lounge area just hyping up every other sport, hyping ourselves up, hyping everyone up.

Just instilling the belief and confidence in everyone else and knowing that this isn't an individual sport and we're here as a team. Whoever sets the tone first, everyone would subconsciously feed off of that.

Andre De Grasse On His Journey To Gold:

Three of us got the bronze in Rio, Tokyo we got the silver so now it's kind of like icing on the cake.

Anna Hall On Finishing Fifth, A Bittersweet Result:

I think young Anna would still pinch myself that I'm even competing on this stage, let alone leaving upset that I didn't get a medal. I'm proud that I'm at that level but it definitely hurts for sure.

Parker Valby On The Collegiates At The Olympics:

We were in the warmup tent with the whole USA crew and I'm like 'This is literally NCAAs.' All my coaches are here, all my teammates, it's awesome.

Jaida Ross On Going To The Olympics Following An NCAA Championship:

When I was out there I just kind of took a moment to myself, looked at this massive crowd and kind of took it in a little bit. It's a lot to process so it'll take a minute to sink in. But It's going to feel amazing, I'm really proud of this.

Shamier Little On Staying Energized Through Three Rounds Of 400m Races:

I ran six 400s at Olympic Trials, so this is nothing. I don't think that I've faced too many obstacles. I think I've gotten the most difficult series of races probably ever in my career out of the way, and I've just been kind of using that as a confidence builder and pouring belief back into myself.

Aaliyah Butler On Shifting From The 400m Semis To The 4x400m relay:

I just knew I had to change my mindset, get over the past. I didn't do my best but I knew this is a team right here and I wanted to give it my all and give Kaylyn [Brown] a good lead that she can run comfortably.

Kaylyn Brown On Seeing Arkansas Teammate Amber Anning In The 400m final:

I keep replaying the 4x400m when we broke the collegiate record with all my teammates. I just sit there and sometimes I cry because it's just amazing that we're all living out our dreams. We've always wanted to come to the Olympics and now we're here.

Vernon Norwood On Quincy Wilson's Olympic Debut:

I told him before we go out there I said "Embrace it. You belong here. This is a privilege. Nobody in this world gets this opportunity so make the most of it."

Grace Stark On Watching Training Partner Grant Holloway Win Gold:

It just kind of fuels me to try and do my best. To see him do so well and knowing that I train right next to him everyday just gives me a lot of confidence going into my rounds.

Alaysha Johnson On Remaining Composed Throughout The Olympics:

I have nothing to lose, nothing to lose, everything to gain. So at this point, it just is what it is. It's the same 10 hurdles I always run, just in a different location, the same girls I always run against. Everything feels so familiar, it feels like a Diamond League.

Bryce Hoppel On His Hopes For The 800m Final:

I want it to be faster because I've had to sit on the sidelines watching guys run 1:41.00. I think it's my turn for that. I'm excited for that, I think it's definitely within the wheelhouse.

Hobbs Kessler On His Energy Going From The 1,500m To The 800m Semis:

If it was set up like the trials, I probably could have given a much better effort in the 800m. If it was just the 1500m and I had two days to recover, I think I would have been fine. But running the 800m prelims with such a tired body, I kind of didn't really recover.
