Maintaining the momentum of the recent 2024 Summer Olympics is as important for track and field as a whole as it is for individual athletes who are looking to continue the success they enjoyed in Paris.

Some sports have high-profile professional leagues for the athletes to go back to, such as the NBA in the United States, while track and field has the globetrotting Wanda Diamond League, which will become a fixture on FloTrack next year.

Next up, is the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, held annually since 2009 in honor of Poland’s youngest Olympic champion – Kamila Skolimowska – who won the women’s hammer throw at the 2000 Olympic Games. Tragically, Skolimowska died from a pulmonary embolism in 2009 at age 26 during a training session in Portugal. 

The Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial/Diamond League Silesia 2024 will take place at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow, Poland, which opened in 1956. 

This year’s Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial will be held Aug. 25.

At the 2023 edition of the event in Silesia, 17 of the competitors went on to win titles at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest later in the year.

What’s Happened So Far In The 2024 Diamond League Season?

The first two stops of the 2024 Diamond League season were held in China – Xiamen (April 20) and Shanghai/Suzhou (April 27). The circuit then visited Qatar (May 10), Morocco (May 19), Eugene, Oregon (May 25), Oslo, Norway (May 30), Stockholm (June 2), Paris (July 7), Monaco (July 12) and London (July 20), before breaking for the Olympic Games, which were held July 26 through Aug. 11.

The final events on the 2024 Diamond League calendar are Lausanne, Switzerland (Aug. 22), Silesia (Aug. 25), Rome (Aug. 30), Zurich (Sept. 5) and Brussels (Sept. 13-14).

The Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial/Diamond League Silesia 2024 will include seven men’s disciplines and seven women’s disciplines, as athletes continue collecting points toward the year’s final event in Belgium. 

The invitation-only Diamond League brings together the most elite track & field athletes to showcase their skills, earn prize money, collect points toward the season-ending championship event and ultimately elevate the status of athletics across the globe. 

Traditionally, Diamond League competition includes a slate of 16 disciplines, though not every meet features all of them. 

Points accumulated during the first 14 events of the season determine the athletes who advance to the final event, where they compete for more prize money and Diamond League titles.

The one-day Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial/Diamond League Silesia 2024 will take place Aug. 25 at the Silesian Stadium.

How To Watch The Diamond League Silesia (Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial) 2024

For audiences in the United States, live coverage of the one-day event will be provided by Peacock, and the action will get underway at 10 a.m. Eastern. It is one of the many Diamond League events being broadcast this year on Peacock and/or NBC or one of the other related networks.

Starting in 2025, which was announced April 10, FloTrack will be the streaming home of the Diamond League for audiences in the United States and its territories (with the exception of any events being held in the United States.

Though there will be many events that are part of the 2024 Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, only some will count toward this year’s Diamond League points.

Men (7): high jump, shot put, pole vault, 200 meters, 800 meters, 3,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase

Women (7): 100 meters, 100-meter hurdles, 400 meters, 400-meter hurdles, 1500 meters, triple jump, javelin
