The Golden Gala Pietro Mennea/Diamond League Rome 2024 is the 13th event of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season and the 44th edition of the famed meet.

It previously was known as the Golden Gala, but it was renamed in 2013 in honor of Italian sprinter Pietro Mennea, who died just before the meet was held that year.

The 2024 Golden Gala Pietro Mennea will take place at the Stadio Olimpico (Olympic Stadium) in Rome. This year’s event will be held Aug. 30.

Though the 2024 Golden Gala comes near the end of the Diamond League schedule, there certainly isn’t any winding down happening when it comes to the talented athletes.

Some still are riding the momentum of the success they found at the recent Olympics in Paris, some are having terrific Diamond League campaigns and are closing in on spots in the season-ending event, some are seeking redemption for what they experienced in Paris and others are fighting for their spots in the season’s final meet.

Expect nothing less than entertainment, drama and storylines in Rome, which is the second-to-last meet before the two-day finale.

The first two stops of the 2024 Diamond League season were held in China – Xiamen (April 20) and Shanghai/Suzhou (April 27). The circuit then visited Qatar (May 10), Morocco (May 19), Eugene, Oregon (May 25), Oslo, Norway (May 30), Stockholm (June 2), Paris (July 7), Monaco (July 12), London (July 20), Lausanne (Aug. 22) and Silesia (Aug. 25).

The Diamond League Rome/Golden Gala Pietro Mennea 2024 will include seven men’s disciplines and seven women’s disciplines, as athletes continue collecting points toward the year’s final event in Belgium.

The invitation-only Diamond League brings together the most elite track & field athletes to showcase their skills, earn prize money, collect points toward the season-ending championship event and ultimately elevate the status of athletics across the globe.

Traditionally, Diamond League competition includes a slate of 16 disciplines, though not every meet features all of them.

Points accumulated during the first 14 events of the season determine the athletes who advance to the final event, where they compete for more prize money and Diamond League titles.

When Is The Diamond League Rome (Golden Gala Pietro Mennea) 2024?

The one-day Diamond League Rome/Golden Gala Pietro Mennea 2024 will take place Aug. 30 at the Stadio Olimpico – also referred to as the Olimpico or the Olympic Stadium – in Italy’s capital city of Rome.

The venue is part of the Foro Italico Sports Complex and is home to two of Italy’s top soccer teams – A.S. Roma and S.S. Lazio. It is the largest sports facility in Rome and the second-largest in Italy.

The Olympic Stadium was built in 1937, primarily for track and field, but it was renovated in time for the 1960 Summer Olympics and renamed. The structural changes made it more versatile, so other sports and events could be welcomed, and it increased capacity to more than 70,000.

The talent pool in Rome will include at least nine individual gold medalists from the 2024 Summers Olympics. The track and field portion of the Olympics was held Aug. 1-11.

How To Watch The Diamond League Rome (Golden Gala Pietro Mennea) 2024

For audiences in the United States, live coverage of the one-day event will be provided by Peacock, and the action will get underway at 3 p.m. Eastern. It is one of the many Diamond League events being broadcast this year on Peacock and/or NBC or one of the other related networks.

Starting in 2025, which was announced April 10, FloTrack will be the streaming home of the Diamond League for audiences in the United States and its territories (with the exception of any events being held in the United States.

What Events Will Be Contested At The Diamond League Rome (Golden Gala Pietro Mennea) 2024?

Though there will be many events that are part of the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea 2024, only some will count toward this year’s Diamond League points.

Men (7): discus, triple jump, shot put, high jump, 100 meters, 400 meters and 5,000 meters

Women (7): pole vault, long jump, 200 meters, 1,500 meters, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, 3,000-meter steeplechase
