Florida Athlete Parvej Khan Provisionally Suspended, Per Reports
Promising middle-distance runner Parvej Khan has been hit with a provisional suspension following an alleged failed drug test.
University of Florida freshman Parvej Khan, an emergent middle-distance standout from India who reached the NCAA Championships in the 1,500 meters in June, has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency of India due to a failed doping test, the Times of India and InsideSport reported on Friday.
The Times of India, detailing a source with knowledge of the suspension, did not disclose the banned substance Khan was found to have used, nor did it outline when the provisional suspension was first imparted on the 19-year-old.
The news comes following a breakout year for Khan, who was the 2024 SEC Outdoor champion in the 1,500m and the SEC Indoor champion in the mile. He clocked a personal best mile time of 3:55.41 indoors and added times of 1:46.12 and 3:36.21 in the 800m and 1,500m outdoors.
His 1,500m best, the second-fastest performance by an Indian athlete in history, came just four days after NCAAs at the Portland Track Festival.
Khan competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1,500m, though he did not qualify through to the final.
His last result of the season came on June 28 at the Indian Championships in Panchkula, where he secured the win in the 1,500m in 3:42.95.
Khan hails from a small village in India, in Madhya Pradesh, and made waves over the 2024 season with spectacular finishes across a series of races. He won Indiana U23 Championships in 2022 in both the 800m and 1,500m.
