Ja'kobe Tharp, Andre Korbmacher Sizzle In 110mH, Plus More From World U20s
American athletes earned a host of medals on Friday, on Day 4 of the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.
American dominance was best represented over the hurdles on Friday at the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru as budding college stars Ja'Kobe Tharp and Andre Korbmacher went 1-2 in the 110 meter hurdle final, earning gold and silver, respectively.
Tharp, the reigning NCAA runner-up at the discipline, ran a new American under-20 record for the 99-centimeter hurdles, clocking a winning time of 13.05 seconds.
Korbmacher, the Florida State freshman, was second overall in a new personal best of 13.14 seconds. China's Yuanjiang Chen was third in 13.21, producing a national under-20 record of his own.
The win was Tharp's first world championship and comes after a prolific year that saw him dominate in the collegiate ranks, picking up an SEC title in May and another win at the NCAA East Regional. While he was upset at NCAAs by Nebraska's Darius Ruff, Tharp made up for that disappointment on Friday inside the La Videna Stadium.
A total of 12 finals took place on the penultimate day of the World U20 Championships, but of course, not every thing went to plan.

Men's U20 4x100 First Round
The Track Gods must be playing a sick joke on Team U.S.A., because after a catastrophic performance at the Paris Olympics, the U.S. junior squad failed to even advance out of the rounds, flubbing a hand-off exchange during the second section.
Jamaica could be in the driver's seat with an opening round of 39.54.
Men's U20 Pole Vault Final
German vaulter Hendrick Műller scored the win with a leap of 5.45 meters, while Japan's Rikuya Yoshida was second at 5.40m and Czechia's Jan Krček was third with a final mark of 5.30m.
The top American was Kansas recruit Bryce Barkdull, who cleared 5.20m.
Women's U20 Shot Put Final
This one wasn't even a question. The U.S.'s Akaoma Odeluga, a freshman at Ole Miss, scored the overall win with a mark of 17.34m.
That was nearly a full meter ahead of second-place Martina Mazurová, who pocketed a silver with a result of 16.38m.
The performance was quite the do-over for Odeluga, who fouled out of the NCAA Championships and was third at SECs.
Women's U20 800m Final
Emerging 800m college star Sophia Gorriaran hung with the leaders through 600 meters of the women's 800m final but couldn't muster a winning move over the final straightaway as she finished in third in 2:01.04.
Kenya's Sarah Moraa took the finish with a winning time of 2:00.36, while Australia's Claudia Hollingsworth was second in 2:00.87.
Men's U20 High Jump Final
You're never too young to win world gold.
That was certainly the case for Scottie Vines, a recent high school graduate from Debeque in Colorado. The Colorado native cleared a personal best mark of 2.25m to claim his global title.
The mark was a quarter-inch better than Vines' top clearance of 7-4.25 over the season. He cleared the attempt on his first try after needing three at 2.23m.
Italy's Matteo Sioli was second with a mark of 2.23m.
Women's U20 100mH Final
Jamaican Kerrica Hill scorched the track in the final, dropping a blitzing time of 12.99 seconds.
Hill was the first woman out of the blocks with a 0.138 reaction time and she was nearly perfect over the hurdles.
Croatia's Mia Wild was second in 13.15, while Australia's Delta Amidzovski was third in 13.24. American Nonah Waldron, a freshman at Southern California, was fourth in 13.30.
Women's U20 200m Final
In a sign of potentially what's to come, British Virgin Islands' teenager Adaejah Hodge earned her first global title with a time of 22.74 in the 200m final, fending off Australie's Torrie Lewis, who was second in 22.88. Like Hodge, Lewis also featured at the Olympics for her home country, so the matchup was a fitting display of future stars.
Hodge was the second-best out of the blocks, only trailing the U.S.'s Elise Cooper, who struggled down the stretch and finished eighth. American Taylor Snaer was sixth in 23.31.
Men's U20 200m Final
Make it 2-for-2 for Bayanda Walaza.
The South Africa claimed the sprint double after winning the 200m final in 20.52 seconds, holding off Australia's Gout Gout, 16, who was second in 20.60.
Great Britain's Jake Odey-Jordan, a 16-year-old who competes for Archbishop Carroll in Washington, DC, was third in 20.81. Jaden Wiley, a recent high school graduate who trains out of Atlanta, was fifth overall in 21.17 seconds.
