Sha'Carri Richardson Finds Redemption With Zurich Diamond League 100m Win

Sha'Carri Richardson found redemption on Thursday as she defeated the Olympic champion Julien Alfred over 100 meters in Zurich during the penultimate Diamond League meeting on the calendar.

Richardson clocked a wind-legal time of 10.84 seconds to take the win, holding off Alfred, who was four-hundredths of a second back.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith was third, while American Tamari Davis finished in fifth and Jamaica's Tia Clayton finished in sixth. All athletes were competing for the last time before the Diamond League final in Brussels, which will put championships on the line over September 13-14.

This was Richardson's first 100 meter race since the Olympic final in Paris on August 3 where she finished second to Alfred, orchestrating a stunning victory in the rain over the perceived favorite in Richardson.

Asher-Smith, who finished in 10.89, led tonight's field through 80m before being passed over the final 20 meters.

Despite the wet track conditions, each of the top three finishers ran near their season bests.

Fellow American, Tamari Davis, finished in fifth with her 11.06. Tia Clayton ran 11.09.
