Jakob Ingebrigtsen To Make Half Marathon Debut At Copenhagen Half On Sunday
The rumors are true. Jakob Ingebrigtsen will make his half marathon debut at the Copenhagen Half on Sunday after winning the Diamond League 1,500m title.
The Norwegian star is officially hitting the roads.
Race organizers for the Copenhagen Half announced that Paris Olympics 5,000m gold medalist Jakob Ingebrigtsen will make his half marathon debut at the event on Sunday, confirming rumors that began circulating earlier this week about the possibility of Ingebrigtsen competing in the Copenhagen, Denmark race.
After previously not appearing on the official start list, Ingebrigtsen's name now does appear on the entries as of Saturday.
Ingebrigtsen's first go at the half marathon distance comes mere days after his winning performance in the men's 1,500m at the Diamond League final in Brussels on Friday, securing the Diamond League trophy in 3:30.37.

In an Instagram post made by Ingebrigtsen after the men's 1,500m Diamond League Final on Friday, he said, "What a great way to end the season. Or...?" On Saturday morning, Ingebrigtsen confirmed the news himself on social media with a picture of his Copenhagen Half race bib.
"The season is not over yet," said Ingebrigtsen in the post.
Speculation began earlier this week that the three-time Diamond League champion would test his half marathon fitness for the first time at the Copenhagen Half, and was asked about it ahead of the Diamond League meeting in Brussels. But at the pre-meeting press conference, Ingebrigtsen neither confirmed nor denied that he would be competing in Copenhagen.
Now, he'll have just under two days to recover for Sunday morning's race.
Ingebrigtsen will certainly face some stiff competition in his first-ever half, competing against none other than half marathon world record holder Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda and 12 other men who have dipped under 60:00 for the distance.
The longest Ingebrigtsen has gone on the roads is 10,000m, clocking a European U20 record of 27:54 as a 19-year-old back in 2019.
But Ingebrigtsen has been quite vocal over the years about his endurance and feeling privy to the longer distances. He's even said himself that he wants to chase after 10 world records in his running career -- presumably from the 1,500m all the way up to the marathon.
Three of those so far belong to Ingebrigtsen -- the men's 2,000m, 3,000m and 2-mile.
When Is The Copenhagen Half?
The Copenhagen Half kicks off at 7:30 a.m. GMT (3:30 a.m. EST) on Sunday in Copenhagen, Denmark and features a loaded elite field even beyond Ingebrigtsen. Kiplimo, along with 2023 World Road Running half marathon champion Sebastian Sawe of Kenya, will toe the line, as too will former NCAA star Edward Cheserek, who holds a 59:11 half marathon personal best.
Copenhagen Half also holds designation as a World Athletics Gold Label road race. The race will stream live on World Athletics Inside Track beginning at 7:00 a.m. GMT (3:00 a.m. EST).
