The last time the world's best ran through the streets of Chicago for the 2023 Chicago Marathon, record-breaking performances were produced on both the men's and women's sides.

In 2023, the late Kelvin Kiptum made marathon history when he broke Eliud Kipchoge's world record of 2:01:09, breaking the tape in 2:00:35. Roughly 15 minutes after Kiptum crossed, Sifan Hassan made history of her own, running 2:13:44, the No. 2 mark of all-time.

This Sunday, 10 men who have run under 2:07 and a women's field with 10 quicker than 2:20 are ready to race in the Windy City, with Ethiopia's Birhanu Legese (2:02:48) and Kenya's Ruth Chepngetich (2:14:18) owning the top personal best times on each respective side.

Along with Legese, the Kenyan duo of Amos Kipruto and Vincent Ngetich have run 2:03:13 within the last two years. Dawit Wolde, who ran 2:03:48 in Valencia a year ago, and Amdework Walelegn (2:04:50) are the only other men with bests sub-2:05, and will each play a critical role in the front pack throughout the race.

While Hassan won't return to better her historic mark, a few international stars are set to clash with an elite American contingent.

Sutume Kebede and Joyciline Jepkosgei have both ran under 2:17 this year, the pair clocking 2:15:55 and 2:16:24 in Tokyo and London, respectively.

Americans Keira D'Amato, Betsy Saina, Sara Hall, and Emma Bates are looking forward to competing on home soil, as the No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 12 fastest Americans of all-time are gunning for new lifetime bests.
