Ngetich made headlines last Sunday, running the second-fastest half-marathon time in history, en route to winning the 2024 Valencia Half Marathon. In January, she smashed the women's road world record in the 10km by 28 seconds, running 28:46 at the 10K Valencia Ibercaja.
She was the bronze medalist at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships.
“Joining Grand Slam Track has ignited even more fire within me,” said Ngetich. “The competition is fierce, the atmosphere will be electric, and the possibilities are endless. I always dreamed of competing at the highest level, and joining Grand Slam Track is the next step in that dream."
Gebreselama competed in the 10km at the 2024 Paris Olympics, placing 10th. Her signature moment of the season was a victory in the 5000m at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic, where she clocked a personal best of 14:18.76.
She was the silver medalist at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships.
“I thrive on competition and Grand Slam Track is a series of races for athletes to push their limits," said Gebreselama. “It's an incredible opportunity to challenge myself against the best in the world and perform in front of passionate fans. I can't wait to feel the energy of the crowd and be part of a show they'll never forget.”
48 athletes will be named to the league as Grand Slam Track Racers. The signings of Ngetich and Gebreselama bring the current total of signed Racers to 32.
“Agnes and Tsigie embody the spirit of Grand Slam Track,” said Michael Johnson, the league's founder and Commissioner. “Their dedication, talent, and competitive drive make them ideal additions to our roster of Racers. We are confident they will inspire fans and help to elevate our sport to the levels it deserves. Their addition solidifies our position as the new global home of track racing, and we can’t wait to see them entertain millions of fans around the world in 2025.”
