NCAA DI Mountain Region, BYU Emerges on Top - 3:37 PM EST

For BYU, it was a business as usual day. BYU placed four men in the top nine en-route to securing the region championship title with 52 points.

New Mexico, with Habtom Samuel in second, was able to hold on for the second of the two automatic qualifying spots. They scored 61 points.

NAU finished in third. At times during the race, Colin Sahlman was being scored in dead-last, but it appears that may have been a chip error. He ended up finishing 13th, which provided a huge boost to the NAU squad. They finished with 71 points.

Solomon Kipchoge earned the individual win in 28:55. Samuel finished in second, 28:59.

  1. BYU – 52 points
  2. New Mexico – 61 points

After a wild last 1,000m, Washington was able to steal the win from underneath the noses of Oregon and Stanford.

  2. Oregon – 68
  3. Stanford – 73

NCAA DI West Region, Evans Kurui Wins And The Team Scores Are Scrambled - 3:30 PM EST

Evans Kurui (Washington State) won the individual battle at the NCAA DI West Region Championship, but with so many athletes in the mix with 1,000m to go, the team scores will certainly be scrambled.

Kurui ran 28:53.

NCAA DI Mountain Region, NAU Is Coming Back - 3:26 PM EST

*Correction - Colin Sahlman is now appearing in the final standing as having finished 13th.

Despite losing Colin Sahlman in the early parts of the race, Northern Arizona is climbing its way back into the race. NAU is up to third and only 27 points behind BYU, in second. New Mexico continues to lead by about 19 seconds over New Mexico.  They just passed the 7,500m mark shortly ago.

Solomon Kipchoge and Ernest Cheruiyot are currently 1-2 for Texas Tech, about 12 seconds ahead of the field.

NCAA DI West Region, Nolan Topper on the Rise - 3:24 PM EST

Stanford's Nolan Topper has moved up to third. He passed 22 runners over that last 800m split and has lifted Stanford back into the lead after 7,000m.

NCAA DI West Region, Stanford is Dropping! - 3:21 PM EST

At the 6,200m split, Stanford has surrendered the team lead to Washington. In fact, Stanford has slipped to third as Oregon holds the No. 2 spot.

For Stanford, Leo Young has moved up to ninth, but Cole Sprout dropped nine positions to 12th. There is still a large pack at the front so a lot of this movement could be because the leaders are jockeying for position.

Portland is still in the hunt, just 10 points back from Oregon.

NCAA DI Mountain Region, Sahlman Is Out Of The Race - 3:18 PM EST

*Correction - Colin Sahlman is now appearing in the final standing as having finished 13th. We are not sure why he was being scored so far behind.

Colin Sahlman crossed the 3,400m mark about three minutes behind the rest of the field. He is in last by a wide margin and is by all accounts, out of the race.

That has opened the doors for other teams to capitalize on NAU's misfortune. New Mexico continues to lead over Texas Tech, 49 to 86. BYU is in third with 92 and Colorado is in fourth with 112. NAU is in fifth with 118.

NCAA DI West Region, Kurui is Flying - 3:15 PM EST

Evans Kurui (Washington State) is FLYING in the West Region. He split 14:19 through the opening 5,000m and leads by over 20-seconds.

Gideon Mengich (Arizona) continues to hold second. Behind him, Stanford's Cole Sprout has moved up to third. The chase pack comes through the 5,000m in 14:44.

Stanford continues to lead the team scores with 58 points. Oregon is in second with 91. Gonzaga and Washington are tied in third with 109 points.

NCAA DI Mountain Region, Is NAU In Trouble? - 3:12 PM EST

*Correction - Colin Sahlman is now appearing in the final standing as having finished 13th. We are not sure why he was being scored so far behind.

Through 3,400m, NAU is currently in fifth. Their lead runner, Colin Sahlman, is not showing in the live standings at that last split. He may have missed a timing mat, but if he dropped out of the race, then NAU is certainly in trouble.

New Mexico currently leads. They have four men in the top eight. Then Texas Tech and BYU trail with 87 and 92 points respectively. NAU has 120 points in fifth.

NCAA DI West Region, Evans Kurui Jumps Out To a 10 Second Advantage - 3:08 PM EST

Washington State's Evans Kurui is mirroring the moves of Solomon Kipchoge (over in the Mountain Region). He has jumped out to a 10 second lead after the opening 2,200m. Behind him, there are about 70 men within ten seconds of each-other.

Arizona's Gideon Mengich has moved up to second.

Looking at the early team scores, Stanford is standing strong with 41 points. Oregon, CBU, Gonzaga and Washington are all over 100 points, but are also within 41 points of each-other.

NCAA DI Mountain Region, Solomon Kipchoge Wastes No Time - 3:05 PM EST

Solomon Kipchoge is taking no prisoners in the early moments of the Mountain Region Championship. He jumps out to a seven second lead only 900 meters in.

Colorado's Dean Casey and NAU's Colin Sahlman lead the rest of the pack.

NCAA DI West Region, Quick Start in the Men's 10,000m - 3:03 PM EST

The West Region men get out to a blazing start in the men's 10,000m. They come through the first 1,000m in 2:47. Evans Kurui (Washington State) leads but there are over 120 men within 10 seconds.

NCAA DI West Region - 2:55 PM EST

The Men's Race at the DI West Region will get underway shortly. The main contenders are Stanford, Washington, CBU and Oregon. All four teams are ranked inside the top 21 of the FloTrack College XC Rankings Presented by HOKA. Portland is certainly a potential upset pick.
