Four Of The Biggest Performances From The 2024 NCAA XC Championships

Although it feels like the season just got up and running, the collegiate cross country season has come to a close following a pair of electric races at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

BYU Sweeps Team Titles, First Time For NCAA Program Since 2004

The last time that the same program won both team titles was in 2004 when the Colorado Buffaloes lifted both trophies. For reference, that was the same year Facebook was launched, as well as the same year that Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj won double gold in the 1,500m and 5,000m at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

On Saturday morning, Diljeet Taylor's women got the ball rolling with a 147-164 win over West Virginia, putting three women inside the top 40. Less than an hour later, Ed Eyestone's men brought out the brooms after taking down Iowa State by 13 points, 124-137.

West Virginia, Providence End Dream Seasons On Podium

Despite facing one of the toughest fields we've seen in recent memory, two programs that didn't even win their conference championships finished runner-up and third at the NCAA cross country championships.

The West Virginia Mountaineers and Providence Friars used an incredible final kilometer to put themselves on the podium.

Led by Ceili McCabe's sixth-place finish, Joy Naukot and Sarah Tait both finished 17th and 34th, making it three Mountaineer All-Americans. This is West Virginia's first time placing in the top two at the national championships.

The Friars were led by a trio in the top 25 as Kimberley May, Alex Millard and Shannon Flockhart finished in 10th, 20th and 24th, as they notched their best finish since winning the whole thing in 2013.

Graham Blanks Prevails, Wins Second-Straight Title

You'd have to be wicked-smart to win a race like that! After making his way through an injury-riddled track season that saw him miss most of the indoor season before making the Olympic 5,000m final, Blanks can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

After successfully responding to a number of moves made throughout the race, Blanks drove the nail in the coffin with just over a kilometer to go, ultimately pulling away from a familiar face, New Mexico's Habtom Samuel.

Furman's Dylan Schubert Hangs On For Gutsy Third-Place Finish

Throughout the 10k battle in Wisconsin, there were only a few faces who stayed on camera for nearly the entirety of the race, one of those being Furman's favorite Paladin, Dylan Schubert. After finishing 24th a year ago and coming off of a third-place finish at the Southeast Region Championships, Schubert surpassed his outdoor 10,000m PB, running 28:39.6 for his highest-ever finish at a national championship.

In April of 2022, Schubert clocked 28:52.85 on a track at the Virginia Challenge, and today, on the rolling hills of the Zimmer Championship Course, the senior crossed in 28:39.6.
