With multiple state titles to his name, Westlake High School (GA) senior Sidi Njie has been a staple figure in Georgia high school track and field over the past few years.

So perhaps it’s no surprise that MileSplit’s top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2025 committed to stay in state when he moves up to the collegiate ranks.

On Saturday, Njie announced his college commitment to the University of Georgia, selecting the program from a list of other top schools that included LSU, Texas, Florida and Alabama.

“GOOO DAWGS 1000000%%%% COMMITTED !!!!!!,” Njie wrote in an Instagram post after making his announcement.

Njie, one of the fastest 200m/400m sprinters in the country as a junior, holds career bests of 20.63 and 45.37 over the distances. In addition to winning a 7A state title in the 200m and runner-up medal in the 400m in the spring, Njie won the USATF U20 title in the 400m, beating out a field consisting of college freshmen and other top high schoolers.

He also went on to earn a World U20 bronze medal in the men’s 400m, clocking 46.29 in Lima, Peru in August.

While Njie is the most coveted prospect to sign with Georgia, he’s also one of a stunning 12 U.S. high school recruits to already ink their names with the Bulldogs. Georgia also nabbed MileSplit’s second-ranked Class of 2025 recruit – Maurice Gleaton Jr. of Langston Hughes High School (GA) – keeping yet another coveted home-grown prospect in the Peach State.

Sure, that’s a huge freshman class, and Georgia has been known for the past few years for bringing in huge recruiting classes. But could Njie make an immediate impact at Georgia?

He certainly has the potential to.

Georgia is no stranger to developing great quarter-milers. Just look at the trajectory of Christopher Morales-Williams, who won both the indoor and outdoor 400m titles for the Bulldogs in 2024.

With Morales-Williams now in the pro ranks, that makes some room for Njie to step in and potentially develop into a NCAA finalist over the next couple of years.

The Bulldogs will need someone to step up at the 400m distance, too. Morales-Williams was the only qualifier from the men’s program for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400m last season, and their men’s 4x400m squad only finished 15th at the NCAA East Preliminary.

But beyond Morales-Williams, Georgia has had impactful 400m and 200m racers on their roster in recent memory. Elija Godwin (400m) and Matthew Boling (200m) both earned NCAA titles during their tenures in Athens within the past few years.

The Bulldogs are certainly used to finding success in the sprints under the tenure of Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert. But now marks a time when they need someone to slot into the rotation more than ever, not only someone who could grow into a NCAA finalist, but someone who can consistently make an impact in the competitive SEC conference.

Njie may be that guy.

Looking at how much he has improved during his high school career, Njie has dropped his 400m best from 46.41 as a freshman to 45.37 as a junior, and he’s dropped his 200m PR by nearly half a second, starting off at 21.01 in his first year and progressing to 20.63 come his junior outdoor season.

And not only has Njie improved, but he’s been consistent. During the 2024 outdoor season, Njie ran under 46 seconds in the 400m in half of his races, and he logged sub-21-second clockings in the 200m on three out of five occasions.

We'll wait and see how Gilbert and Sprints/Hurdles Coach Karim Abdel Wahab insert Njie into the Georgia system come fall 2025. But if we had to take a guess, the top high school recruit in the nation will be someone the Bulldogs turn to pretty quickly once he steps foot on campus.
