The 2024 Valencia Marathon is set for this Sunday, December 1. The action will be streamed LIVE on FloTrack, but before the big day, we need to talk about a few of the main storylines.

From big names to intense battles, this year's Valencia Marathon has a ton to offer to onlookers.

1. Two Titans Are Set to Clash: Kenenisa Bekele and Sisay Lemma

This could get interesting quick.

Three-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion Kenenisa Bekele will square off with Sisay Lemma, the 2024 Boston Marathon champion.

Bekele is arguably one of the best distance runners in world history. With his marathon best of 2:01:41, Bekele holds the Ethiopian national record in the marathon distance. 

But Lemma has been knocking on that door. 

At the 2023 Valencia Marathon, Lemma ran 2:01:48, just seven seconds off Bekele's mark.

Don't look past Birhanu Legese, either. He could put a wrinkle in the plans of his countrymen. At 30 years of age, Legese has run 2:02:48. He had a light racing schedule this year, and he could make some waves on race day.

2. Sara Hall's 2024 Season Continues

American Sara Hall will continue her 2024 season with the Valencia Marathon. The 41 year-old has not shied away from racing in 2024.

Hall opened the year back on February 3 at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. The veteran finished fifth in a loaded field and ran 2:26.06. She then returned to the roads in April for the 2024 Boston Marathon and delivered a respectable 15th-place finish. In the summer months, she ran a handful of other road races, ranging from 10,000m to the half-marathon distance.

Then in October at the Chicago Marathon, she finished 18th.

Hall has made a career on her longevity in the sport and at 41 years old, she continues to mix it up with the world's finest.

3. Sebastian Sawe Makes His Marathon Debut

Kenya's Sebastian Sawe is a half-marathon world champion, and for the first time in his career, he'll make the jump to the full marathon distance. 

With a 58:05 half marathon personal best, Sawe will have lethal speed down the stretch if he can maintain control of the race.

However, he is certainly up against some of the most experience runners in the world.

Kenya's Hillary Kipkoech will also make his marathon debut on Sunday in Valencia.
