Looking Ahead To 2025: Three Big-Time Predictions

After arguably one of the greatest seasons of American track and field we've ever seen, it's warranted that everyone is incredibly optimistic heading into the 2025 season.

We took a stab at a few big-time predictions for the upcoming outdoor campaign, and fingers crossed we can look back at this in September and pat us on the back.

Prediction: Bryce Hoppel Wins The 2025 World Title, And Finishes Under 1:41.5

In case you've been living under a rock for the last year, Bryce Hoppel has been on a roll and is coming off of his best season to date. The back-to-back-to-back U.S. outdoor champion had an eventful end to his Olympic campaign, running 1:41.67 and breaking Donovan Brazier's American record en route to a fourth-place finish in the Olympic final.

Heading into 2025, Hoppel is an obvious world championship contender to break the tape in Tokyo. The 27-year-old has been trending up since joining the professional ranks, and there's no reason he can't have his day.

Prediction: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Breaks 50 Seconds In 400mH

This far out, it's hard to predict exactly what McLaughlin-Levrone plans on doing this upcoming track season, but it's too fun to speculate. The world record holder already has the three fastest times in the history of the 400m hurdles -- and four more of the top 11 all-time marks -- so it's not like she needs to run a certain time or win another title to prove herself.

Even with how immensely talented her biggest challengers are (Femke Bol and Anna Cockrell, among others), this is McLaughlin-Levrone's world and we're all just living in it. If she's still all-in on the 400m hurdles in 2025, there's no reason why she can't break the record again.

Prediction: Rai Benjamin Continues Dominance, Breaks Warholm's World Record

After coming so close to besting Karsten Warholm in previous years, Rai Benjamin didn't miss a beat this year and absolutely smashed his competition this time around. Benjamin's showing at the Paris Games was one for the ages, including his 46.46 run that led him to his first Olympic title in the men's 400m hurdles and his title-clinching split of 43.18 in the 4x400m. In the world of 400m hurdles, it seems like Benjamin is sitting on the throne right now, and I'm not convinced anyone will be able to knock him off.
