Which NCAA Track & Field Records Are In Jeopardy In 2025?
What collegiate records could likely go down in 2025? Here are three we think could be in danger.
As we head into 2025, it's no surprise that many likely have high hopes for the NCAA competition season after an entertaining 2024.
Over the course of the indoor and outdoor seasons, athletes took down numerous collegiate records -- and we expect it to be no different this upcoming year.
Of the collegiate records, there are a few that seem to be the most susceptible to record-breaking performances in 2025. Here are three collegiate all-time marks that could be the next to fall in the New Year.

Men's 10,000m
Nico Young's 26:52.72 10,000m collegiate record from The TEN has only stood since March 2024, but that doesn't mean it won't go down this upcoming season.
In fact, there's one athlete who could be a prime candidate to break that record, someone who also dipped under the previous 27:08.39 collegiate record at The TEN last season. That's none other Habtom Samuel of New Mexico, the 2024 NCAA outdoor 10k champion and two-time NCAA cross country runner-up.
Perhaps overshadowed by Young's record-breaking race last season, Samuel clocked 26:53.84 at The TEN to move to No. 2 all-time in collegiate history in the 10k.
But Samuel isn't the only one who could likely take the record. Put some of the Arkansas men in the right race and perhaps they could make a run for it. Texas Tech's Solomon Kipchoge has run under 60 minutes for a half marathon, so he should likely get put in the 10k record conversation if he wants to go for it. Add Parker Wolfe, Casey Clinger and others into the conversation, and the chase for the record gets wild.
Based on just the 2024 cross country season alone, we should be in for a competitive outdoor season in 2025 at the 5,000m distance and above.
Held in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., The TEN provides optimal racing conditions, plus the chance for top collegians to race against the pros. With that in mind -- and after seeing Young's and Samuel's performances there last year after NCAA Indoor Championships -- it seems that we could maybe see the 10k record go down at the meet again in 2025.
Women's 800m
We're in quite the prime time for women's middle distance running in the NCAA --- and with that could come a new collegiate record in the 800m this upcoming year.
None other than Tokyo Olympic 800m champion Athing Mu set the 800m collegiate record at 1:57.73 while at Texas A&M in 2021. And while that's certainly a giant name and time to take down, 2024 saw some of fastest performances at the distance ever.
Which collegian currently sits at No. 2 all-time in the women's 800m? It's Michaela Rose of LSU, who has thrown down fast times and won a NCAA title in her time in Baton Rouge. Her personal best of 1:58.37 puts her just over half a second off of Mu's record, and Rose is an athlete who will consistently runs fast and goes for big times, even during regular season competition.
But it's this year's NCAA indoor and outdoor champion, Juliette Whittaker, who sits at the top currently in the collegiate ranks at the 800m distance. Technically, the Stanford star came closer than Rose to going under Mu's 1:57.73 as Whittaker ran a personal best of 1:57.76 to advance to the finals of the Paris Olympics (her Olympics performances do not count toward the collegiate all-time list, however). Over the course of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, U.S. Olympic Trials and Olympics, Whittaker went under two minutes in the 800m five times in eight total races.
It's as competitive as it's been in some time at the women's 800m distance, with Whittaker and Rose leading the way. It's worth adding Arkansas' Sanu Jallow to the conversation, too, who moved to No. 6 on the collegiate all-time list with a 1:59.29 performance at the SEC Outdoor Championships as a sophomore.
Break the collegiate record, and you're in good company. Previous women's 800m collegiate record holders include Mu and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Raevyn Rogers and three-time Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton.
Women's High Jump
Last year, we saw two women put their names at the top of the all-time collegiate list in the women's high jump -- Lamara Distin (Texas A&M) and Rachel Glenn (Arkansas), both clearing 2.00m during the indoor season.
With Distin now competing professionally representing PUMA, is it Glenn's time to jump a new record?
The signs are certainly there. Glenn enters the 2025 competition year having represented the U.S. at the Paris Olympics. She finished second at the Olympic Trials with a 1.94m clearance and tied the 2.00m collegiate record with a huge title-winning performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the spring.
But what's great right now about the women's high jump at the NCAA level is that there are plenty of players primed to compete for high marks alongside Glenn. Both Illinois' Rose Yeboah and Georgia's Elena Kulichenko cleared 1.97m to tie for first at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, subsequently both moving into a tie with many other athletes in collegiate history at No. 4 all-time in the event. The two both return to NCAA competition in 2025.
