Later this month, over 2000 athletes from over 300 schools will converge on the Virginia Beach Sports Center for the eighth edition of The VA Showcase.

With a ton of high-caliber talent set to compete, there are several national records in jeopardy. The 2025 VA Showcase will be streamed LIVE on FloTrack and MileSplit.

1. Quincy Wilson Eyeing Will Sumner's 500m Record Among Others

Last January, then Bullis (Md.) sophomore Quincy Wilson cruised to a 1:01.27 clocking in the 500m. He established himself as the second-fastest high schooler in the event's history, behind Woodstock's (Ga.) Will Sumner. Since Wilson's dazzling display a year ago, the superstar has run 44.20 for 400m and claimed Olympic gold (4x400m), so it's safe to say he's an even stronger version of himself.

Last week, Wilson opened up his junior campaign with a 1:17.19 win over 600m. While Wilson isn't entered in any specific event at this time, there's a chance he'll break the record no matter the distance.

Wilson is going to be tested regardless of the event he ends up racing, and will have several challengers who would love to get an early season win against the Olympian. In the 300m, Cuthbertson's (N.C.) Brenden Robbins poses the biggest threat, while Bayside (Va.) senior Andrew Salvodon could push him in the 500m.

2. The Newly-Minted Girls 300m Record Is Up For Grabs

Just like many races that are set for the 2025 VA Showcase, the fast heat of the girls 300m is sure to be a quick one, and has the chance to be one that's remembered for years to come.

A few weeks ago, Union Catholic's (N.J.) Taylor Aska became the first high school girl to ever break 38.0 in the 300m, stopping the clock at 37.79 at the JAMBAR Coaches Hall of Fame meet in New York City. The three fastest times in high school history were run in that same race, with Bullis School's (Md.) Kennedy Brown and The Lawrenceville School standout Sofia Swindell (N.J.) finishing in second (38.14) and third (38.21).

As of now, none of the three speedsters are entered in the meet but don't be surprised if any of those girls join the field and attempt to make history. Even if the trio doesn't opt to make the trip to Virginia Beach, IMG Academy's (Fla.) Jasmyn Sharps, Montverde Academy's (Fla.), and Coldwater's (Ohio) Isabella Zahn have all run 38.4 or quicker and could combine for some history of their own.

3. Montverde Girls Looking To Lower 4x400m National Records

Last June at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, the quartet of Nakira Hudson, Skyler Franklin, Dasia Reed, and Alivia Williams held off Bullis School (Md.) to snag the 4x400m national record, breaking the tape as the clock read 3:31.68.

While Williams has moved on to the University of Iowa, the remaining trio have two more years to etch their name in history.

Granted, Williams will not be an easy leg to replace, especially considering she was consistently running sub-53.5. Don't worry, Montverde Academy is notorious for having unmatchable depth and incredible sprinters.

While the Eagles are the main team to watch, other current entries that could make things interesting include IMG Academy (Fla.) and Dudley (N.C.).

Joshua-Kai Smith Could Crack 55mH Top-5 All-Time

In the event's history, only one U.S. high schooler has ever run under seven seconds in the 55mH, and that is110mH star Trey Cunningham, a World Championship silver medalist.

Since Cunningham's record-setting run, only a handful of athletes have joined him under 7.10, including Joshua-Kai Smith, a junior who accomplished the feat just last weekend. At the 10th Annual Ocean Breeze Holiday Festival, Smith clocked 7.08 and won his fifth-straight 55mH contest.

He also notched the third-fastest time in Virginia history, three-hundredths of a second shy of legend Grant Holloway. Smith has his work cut out for him, especially when you look at a few of the other hurdlers standing in his way.

Le'Ezra brown, a senior from Dudley (N.C.) is making his season debut, while Trevon Foster, a junior from The Hill School (Pa.) is gearing up for his first race in over a month. The talented duo both sport PB's of 7.25 and 7.27.
