American Records On Watch At 2025 Houston Half Marathon
American record holder Weini Kelati and top marathon Americans Conner Mantz and Clayton Young will take to the roads for the Houston Half Marathon.
Fans may want to keep their eyes on the American men's and women's half marathon records on Jan. 19.
That's because women's half marathon American record holder Weini Kelati and U.S. Olympians Conner Mantz and Clayton Young, among other top talents, will compete in the elite fields at the half marathon distance at the 2025 Aramco Houston Half Marathon.
And not only do the elite fields, announced on Tuesday, include various top U.S. road racers, but also many high profile athletes that have had success on the Houston course in years past.
On the women's side, Kelati comes back to Houston a year after setting the American record at the event in 2024, running 1:06:25 for fourth overall. She'll face up with Buze Diriba, who was third at last year's Houston Half Marathon, and Yalemzerf Yehualaw, who sits at No. 5 all-time in the half marathon.
Meanwhile, the men's field includes some big American names, including the likes of Mantz and Young. Coming off of eighth- and ninth-place finishes at the Paris Olympics in the men's marathon last summer, the training partners will drop down in distance in Houston.
Other prominent Americans in the field include Futsum Zienasellassie, Hilary Bor, Morgan Pearson, Frank Lara and Diego Estrada, who have all run under 1:02:00 in their careers, as well as Joe Klecker, who will be making his half marathon debut.
For reference, Ryan Hall's American record sits at 59:37. In a fast race like Houston, that mark could be in danger.
Prominent international men to keep an eye on include defending champion Jemal Yimer and sub-60-minute half marathoners Cybrian Kotout and Gabriel Geay.
