Over the years, several track & field superstars made a pit stop at The VA Showcase before going on to do incredible things at both the collegiate and professional levels.

From Olympic champions to NCAA record holders, the staple meet has played host to everything and everyone.

Let's take a look at four immensely talented athletes who made a name for themselves at The VA Showcase before checking off boxes at the collegiate and professional levels.

1. Athing Mu

Mu is easily the most notable athlete to ever compete at The VA Showcase, and that's not a dig on the rest of the contenders.

Mu was a force to be reckoned with in high school, running historically fast times of 51.98 and 2:01.17 in the 400m and 800m and snagging a few national records along the way in the indoor 500m and 600m. In her lone season competing for Texas A&M, Mu tallied three national titles and both the indoor and outdoor collegiate records in the 800m.

Since turning professional in the summer of 2021, Mu has won multiple Olympic and world title. She is the American record holder in the 800m, and is the ninth fastest woman in world history.

2. Will Sumner

We haven't had the opportunity to see a lot of what Sumner is capable of due to a recent Achilles injury, but his 2023 campaign is enough of a reason to be excited about the 21-year-old's future.

As a high schooler, Sumner was making waves in the 800m. He climbed to No. 3 on the all-time list after running 1:46.53 as a senior.

In his only season at the University of Georgia, Sumner won big at the NCAA Championships, clocking the fifth-fastest mark in NCAA history, 1:44.26. In his first race as a professional, Sumner finished fifth in the Men's 800m final at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships.

3. Udodi Onwuzurike

While many mid-distance stars have left their mark on both The VA Showcase and the track and field landscape, Onwuzurike is one of the quickest athletes.

Before he donned the iconic Stanford uniform, Onwuzurike was tough to beat in high school, posting PBs of 6.72, 10.23, and 20.90 in the 60m, 100m, and 200m, respectively.

During his time in Palo Alto, Onwuzurike notched three All-American honors and a national title in the 200m. The sprinter is also the fourth-fastest in collegiate history and recently represented Nigeria in the 200m at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

4. Juliette Whittaker

During her time at Mount De Sales Academy in Maryland, Whittaker found a lot of success on the mid-distance side of things.

She posted national records in the 1000m and outdoor 800m, an event in which she became the second girl to ever break 2:00 in high school.

One of two Stanford athletes on the list, Whittaker has already accomplished things most athletes dream of. In her collegiate singlet, Whittaker has collected multiple All-American honors and has also won a pair of 800m national titles. Whittaker's most recent campaign saw her make it to the Olympic final in Paris, where she finished seventh.
